Fraudulent Emails

I have received TWO emails today. One from an eBay member telling me an item I won was ready for shipment as soon as I paid them. The second was an email from Paypal saying I had limited account access because of suspicious activity on my account. They wanted me to click the link to log in and verify my account information.

They both looked VERY convincing. I logged in to my ebay account to double check, and the message was not there (which it would have been had it been a legit message). I called Paypal on the phone and she verified that it was NOT from Paypal. I went ahead and changed my passwords just to be on the safe side.

Please be careful everyone!!

I have an account with ZD-Net; yeah it's geeky, but they are warning you everyday, to be on the lookout for thesse types of E-mail.

If you don't recognize the author, or sender, do not click on it. Delete it.

They're after your private information, and they want to exploit it.

The PayPal scams have been going around for years. One big giveaway that it is scam spam is that PayPal email will always include your name in their emails and NOT be addressed to "Dear PayPal Member."

If you can't decide whether it is legit or not, DO NOT click on the link provided, but go directly to the PayPal website for more information directly from them. I received a recent notification from PayPal (addressed to me) that a new security widget was available that would advise me was a safe site or not, as well as provide other direct links to PayPal. Even then I went to the PayPal site instead of clicking on the provided link to verify that the posting was real.

If you do click on a suspicious link, begin by entering any made up name and password. Instead of being rejected, phony sites will advance to forms that request additional account user information. Stilll not a good idea to enter suspicious sites though!
