Middletown Fire Department

On Saturday September 28th, Maryland State Police Troopers from the Frederick Barrack conducted the third of four Community Medication Disposal Events at the Middletown Volunteer Fire Company. This event was held with the cooperation and support of Frederick County Health Department/Syringe Services and the Frederick County (MD) Fire & Rescue.

In four hours on Saturday morning, Troopers and volunteers from the community made collected 108 pounds of unwanted medication and 1,192 needles, all from private citizens.

Once each quarter in 2019, Troopers will hold these events at different fire departments in Frederick County. The next event will take place on Saturday December 14, 2019, with assistance from the New Market Vol. Fire Company.



Our partnership hopes to accomplish the following goals:



Goals:



  • Remove unused prescription drugs/narcotics to prevent unlawful use and abuse



  • Provide an environmental friendly avenue for citizens to:
    1. Remove & destroy unwanted prescription drugs
    2. Safely destroy used syringes to prevent the spread of diseases
    3. Ask questions about mental health and rehabilitative resources



  • Provide educational materials and brochures to prevent drug abuse and addiction
