Free Places to Ride Dirtbikes in Southern Maryland

Anyone knows of free trails or man-made trails in Southern Maryland to ride dirtbikes and 4-wheelers. I am trying to avoid too far of a drive to take my son and his friend out in the surrounding areas. I actually live in Ft. Washington, Maryland close to the new National Harbor and the Woodrow Wilson Bridge.

I am open to some kid biker clubs that may be accepting new members or can refer me to some places to go.

By the way, I am aware the Southern Maryland ATV park and places like that that cost $70 or more per visit, but trying to avoid that expense if at all possible.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Good luck. There aren't too many places to ride legally. You might find someone with a few acres who would be willing to let you ride but most people don't want the liability. Southern Maryland Dirt Riders is a good club but membership is very tight because so many folks want to get in. It's not free by any means if you can get in but well worth it if you want to ride.

You might find someone there who could hook you up with a place too. Southern Maryland Dirt Riders - Home

:howdy:

I used to park my VW by the river and drink beer ..... the entrance was near Kirby Rd .... and my buddy used to bring his Jeep

:tantrum

they are building that :burning: hotel about where I used to sit ....

We used to ride dirt bikes - 85 RM 250 - there, Oxon Hill Rd where there are now houses - Fill Dirt Dump / backside of Kirby Farm, Clinton where the Walmart is ...

I'll check a friend supposedly has a route down in Accokeek .....

Thanks for the info. Let me know about Accokeek once you check with your friend.

MapMyRide.com | View St. Mary's County Power Lines Part 1 in Lexington Park, Maryland

There are other GPS files I have created like the one above for this area (southern maryland). I have not made them public though on MapMyRide. I will probably create a new GPS file of the Indian Bridge Road trail system this weekend and make it available. Click on the "Hybrid" or "Satellite" view to get a better feel for where it is. The best place to offload for this section is the firehouse because you can access the powerlines without being visable at all from the street.

Let me know if you would like some more...

why do you want free? are you poor?

Have you checked with the proper government agencies to see if they have any low income ATV parks in the area? They might in order to keep up with the Ride to Opportunity mandates from the feds.

They are really hard to insure...I know you sign waivers before you ride...but in court they mean NOTHING!

Such an idiot, why would you even say this. $70 a day is excessive other parks i've been to are $10 a day or as high as $15 but $70 is just ridiculous.

Hmmm,
I own enough property to have my own track if I desire.

you and others on the other hand, have decided to take up a sport that you dont have the room for.
now whos the idiot.

heres the answer, if someone else owns the property and wants to charge 100 bucks an hour to use it, your choice is use it, or go without.

see how it works?

when you start to question why somebody charges what the do, you quickly become the idiot.

:yeahthat:

Have you ever owned one of these places??? Do you know what it cost to run a track? Why did you spend the money on something that you cant ride anywhere, and then complain because there is a place that you can ride, but you don't want to spend the money?

Yup, you are starting to sound like an idiot!!!!

I've got to agree with jrmy....I've ridden at the local park and it is not worth $70, period. If they (drastically) lowered the price they'd probably get alot more patrons, which would more than likely result in higher income than what they pull in now. Of course there'd be more trail maintenance, so who knows. You are all right though, they can charge whatever they want. They just don't have enough trails for me to pay that kind of money.

Alot of folks own ATVs and don't have a spare 100 plus acres to ride on, me being one of them. I've got friends who have property, and ride there, but for the most part I tow my atv to parks outside of MD. I knew that going into it, so I don't really see how that is a bad decision on my part if i can live with it.

jrmy's original question certainly wasn't a dumb one though, it never hurts to ask....that's kind of the point of these forums right?
