What's not to love about this deal huh? I'll be back later with more thoughts, but I wanted to get this out there.

Have to agree with Colvin - why bring in an out of state developer who has no experience in the state?

Seems odd. Also odd it is the fact that the planning and zoning guy evidently doesn't understand the meaning of the word denigrate.
What exactly is different about putting up housing elsewhere than it is in Maryland?

Other than its not my buddies business?

I don't know. Just a fan of keeping the county money in the county. To me, the other big question is who the hell thinks that putting a subdivision with 30% of it being section 8 right next to the military housing and settlers landing isn't going to dump settlers landing property values and not do wonders for the quality of life in the military housing.

Well a property management company owns the military housing, so cant say I care about that.

I'd rather a stranger steal from the local tax payer than someone local.

And that company paid 10 million for the land. Why should the county give this land away for $1 a year? On top of whatever subsidies they pay the folks who will occupy 30% of the units?

Not saying I'm actually for it, but if they are going to build it I'd rather it there than near me.

With the Housing Authority involved at the land "owner" this would get real complex. They'd pay $1/year to the County for the ground rent but what would the operators, apparently this Volker company be paying them? Volker builds the building, would they retain ownership and manage the development?

Keep in mind that many, if not most, of these units would be subsidized so whoever owns/manages it is basically guaranteed their rent payments.

I think it's a bad idea but St. Mary's isn't my circus or monkeys.

Yeah. It's a weird self licking ice cream cone of subsidies.
