I dropped the boat in the pond behind base housing on Pax River. I use to fish this place years ago. It had some bigger bass in there. While I didn't get anything huge, I managed 15 fish. 11 Bluegill and 4 bass. All the bluegill were caught on a small, square-bill crankbait. 2 of the bass went for a soft plastic lizard.
The fish I landed had an off smell to them. Even the water smelled a little stagnant. I don't think that pond gets a lot of action as there aren't a lot of places to fish it from shore. Someone has a row boat over there that they probably take out a few times a week. If they aren't practicing catch and release, that pond could be emptied out in no time at all. I'm sure I'll be back trying to catch a few of the larger bass.
