CSM From Dvořák to Barbershop Quartets, From a Jazz Festival to ‘Pippin,’ A Variety of Musical Stylings and Concerts Fill the Air at CSM’s Campuses This S

The College of Southern Maryland (CSM) is moving into the second half of spring semester, with only weeks left until the 2019 spring commencement on May 17. This is a time of year full of musical presentations at the college as students prepare for recitals and concerts, the CSM Main Stage’s annual musical will be presented and the annual jazz clinic is offered, among other artistic offerings.

The CSM Jazz Festival is set for April 4-6, followed by the CSM Barbershop Extravaganza on April 13. CSM’s stage production of the musical “Pippin,” with a score by Stephen Schwartz, is the story of one young man’s search for the secret of true happiness and fulfillment. “Pippin” comes to CSM’s Fine Arts Center Theater with shows presented on multiple dates and times at the end of April and the beginning of May.

The CSM Student Honors Recital, which features students recommended by CSM’s private studio teachers, will be presented at a free concert on May 10. And the CSM Concert Band Concert, in collaboration with the Southern Maryland Concert Band will perform a variety of music styles May 10.

Two more presentations remain in the Ward Virts Concert Series at the Prince Frederick Campus — the first featuring the music of Dvořák on April 14 and the second featuring jazz on May 12. This series is presented for free to the college and community thanks to the financial assistance of generous donors and funding from the CSM Foundation and grants from the Arts Council of Calvert County and the Maryland State Arts Council. The CSM Pops Concert is set for May 11 and will feature performances by the Southern Mix Barbershop Chorus, Ritmo Caché Latin Ensemble, CSM Chorale and Chamber Choir.
