Frontline

I just had my daughter take my pom to get groomed this morning. He was getting infested with fleas. We have used Frontline for years, with great success. Now, we cannot get rid of the fleas. The groomer said that my dog may be ammuned now. She said I should call the vet to find another means of flea medicine. Is there anything else I can use before I spend more money at the vet? TIA

We have cats, not dogs, but have had a terrible flea issue. Frontline stopped working on our cats so we switched to Advantage and bombed the heck out of our house over the weekend. No signs of fleas so far!

The vet told my husband fleas are worse this year than they have been in the history of the world.

I used capstar on all my animals and it was wonderful! They say depending on how bad the fleas are you may need a second dose. Also, I was going to buy the stuff to bomb my house, but I bought this stuff in a can from the vet. Its safe to use and you dont need to leave the house. You spray the area and the can does up to 1200 sq.ft. I sprayed a room and closed a door, then went to the next and did the same thing. I wanted to be safe and just make sure my animals werent sensitive to this. So far things seem ok!

What's the name of that spray? We have found a few lately on one dog and they are both on flea meds.

Well, let me first say using capstar is cheap and kills fleas within the first hour. The pills are $3.00 which isnt bad. The spray stuff is $25.00 a can and like I said it can spray up to 1200 sq ft. the spray is called Siphotrol plus II. It says: fast acting formula 100% knock down for adult fleas in 10 minutes. Kills both adult and immature fleas and ticks. Oh, im sorry it says it treats 2,000 square feet. Well thats good! Ok, im going to stop now cause I feel like im talking to myself. Hope this helps!

They are horrid this year. I typically only dose the indoor cats once a year and the indoor/outdoor cat and dog monthly and that's sufficient. I've had to dose them every month because we find a flea or two. Fleas gross me out!

Thanks! I hate the whole "bombing' thing. I'd rather use a spray.

The spray is safe for animals and kids. I just still keep them out. I'd rather be safe then sorry! I forgot to add there is really no nasty smell either when spraying so thats helps! Let me know how it works out.

I haven't had fleas in my house (that I know of) in more than 10 years up until recently also. I opened all the windows in the house and froze them out I think, gave all the animals’ flea baths, vacuumed EVERYTHING and washed everything on all the beds. So far, I think it worked. Last week, I picked a couple of huge ticks off my tabby. I thought that was odd. They were in the skin but appeared dead.

I'm actually glad you brought up this subject.

We got some of that spray, too. C_Jo used it in the baby's room (we kept her door closed during the bombing). Pretty good stuff. I squirted some on a cracker. :yum:

I stopped Frontline. Used Advantage on the kitties (who don't even go outside but had some fleas) and Advantix on dogs. You have to be careful because Advantix isn't good for kitties.

My dogs are outside a lot and I've never found a flea on them before. Our house backs to the woods, too. We don't usually have a tick problem either, but this year my Boxer was coming in every night with at least one on him. The Chi, none.

I have used BioSpot for years. They sell it at PetCo. It will kill the fleas that are on your dog now and it will kill any fleas that get on your dog for 4 weeks. It works like Advantage but cheaper.

Somehow we got fleas and neither cat goes outside anymore. :ohwell: I guess we should keep up the monthly Advantage treatments?

I think the fleas and ticks give up and try another dog/cat when it comes my dog (Malamute). They search and search for skin to bite and never find it. We use Sentenel (sp) and hope for the best because she has so much fur, we'd never find a flea or tick anyways. We've never seen her scratching or it must work. Our cats are inside cats and I figure as long as the dog is protected, they should be ok too.

So far I haven't seen any fleas on my 3 dogs, but get living, crawling ticks off them daily. They are all on Frontline.
