How about a thread where we put fun activites for kids and families in the local area? It can be a reference thread when you are looking for things to do during the summer or on weekends. We can include what it is, how much it costs, and what age groups it is good for!

Cost is : Free! (Unless you want to go in the building)

To Do: Wonderful stroll through the woods that is paved, look at outdoor art. Very kids friendly, good for all ages.

Bring a water bottle! Has clean bathrooms.

Schoolhouse Rock

Patuxent Playhouse is doing a production of Schoolhouse Rock This weekend and next at the St John Vianney Family Life Center Theater. Show times are Friday and Saturday at 8 PM (w/e of the 8/7-8 and W/E 8/14-15). There is also a matinee show at 2 PM on 8/15.

I saw a preview performance yesterday and it was really cute!

Cost: There is one, but I couldn't find out how much it was since the Paypal link was down. You can buy tickets on the Patuxent Playhouse website:

(This is a great idea for a thread. I'm always looking for things to take my kids to.)

Great idea, Geek. I hope there are a lot of responses because I'm still learning my way around somd and I'm sure I'm missing out on many great places.

I've actually been thinking of checking out AnnMarie Gardens with the baby. I've never been there yet. I also like to walk on the boardwalk in North Beach. There are usually lots of "interesting people" to keep me entertained. :yahoo:

Last week my kids went with their dad and a his friend and child to the Cove Point Pool. They loved it and went on and on about how inexpensive it was. For 24 bucks 2 adults and three kids had a blast for four plus hours. The kids loved the slides at the pool.

Question: What hours do they open? From the web site it seems like it is 12 noon. TIA :flowers:

I love the Calvert Marine Museum. The kids hands on room rocks. The volunteers are usually friendly and informative. Prices are reasonable. You can even get a beautiful boat ride!

All ages!

The Calvert Marine Museum

First Fridays (***) are great at the Marine Museum and they waive the fee. All the exhibits are open and they have music and (I think) food. I think there are even extra guides available. (***These are special friday evening hours on the first friday of every month. Details are on their website.)

Tumblebus

I saw this driving down the road the other day and had to look it up. Forgot to post until Geek made this thread and jogged my memory.

Tumblebus Jungle, LLC

Classes are weekly at area schools, community centers, preschools, etc. You can also rent the tumblebus for birthday parties. Tumblebus Jungle, LLC $275 for the party but it seems to come with a lot of stuff added.

Says the Tumblebus is reccommended for kids 2-8 and the classes are held during the day.

:yay: Schoolhouse Rock was excellent! My kids & I thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. It was $10.00 a person.

Bring a sweater, or hoodie - it's brrrrrrr cold in that auditorium at St. John Vianney's Family Life Center! They also had some refreshments available during intermission - for a little donation. I didn't have any cash on me, so I didn't want to get anything. (Thing2 actually wanted me to go to my car & dig out my stash of quarters to use. But I wouldn't!)

Mini Golf

Has anyone gone to that mini golf place in Prince Fred? I just saw an ad for it, RJ's I think....anyway I want to know if it is reasonably priced, good course, and what else is there???? This area is really lacking when it comes to mini golf,go-karts, arcades, bowling, etc.

Thanks, I guess we'll just have to try it out and see if it will end up being worth the $$$$. We love batting cages and mini golf so I'm hoping it will be fun.

The mini golf course is pretty basic and looks kind of home made, but it's fun enough. Also have the boats with the water sprays, as well as the batting cages.
