g-tube

Peace
It was decided yesterday that Celie is getting a g-tube in 6 weeks or so. We have one last chance with a nutritionist, but this is basically a formality so the doctor can say he tried one. She did not grow at all in the last three months. She is 22lbs. and almost 2 1/2yrs. old. Say a prayer or send good thoughts or do whatever you do. We need it.

Good luck Camily. My thoughts will be with little Celie. Is this a permanent thing or will they be removing the g-tube in time?

He didn't give me any idea about that. I think it's just a see how it goes thing. It will be night feedings only. She will be hooked up to an IV type pump as she sleeps. It will come in handy for her medicine though for sure. No more mixing it in juice, she can just get it right in the tube.

Yes, she has a kidney disease called Renal Tubular Acidosis. She takes Bicarb 3x's a day to keep her co2 level right to make all her other levels fall into place. She also has had malabsorbtion problems where her food just goes right through her. This started when she was 6 months old and started losing weight. It is a real struggle for her to simply maintain her weight. The doctor is afraid that if we don't do something now she may have life long problems due to lack of nutrients reaching her brain. If her body isn't growing, neither is her brain. Right now she is fine, but we are at the cut off for no lasting effects.

are you talking about a child? I have a niece who has one, and she's 2 1/2 yrs old will have one for the rest of her life, she is a special needs child and is the most sweetest thing in the world. she has what they call "smooth brain" you can do a search on it to see what it is exactally.
