The first morning after the first day of gardening shows just how out of shape a person is....oh, my aching everything!

In the ground:
garlic - which I neglected to plant last fall, but should still do ok
peas - YEAH!
lettuces
radishes
green onions
spinach
Swiss chard

Planning to plant potatoes today, we'll see how the day goes.

I don't plant cabbages, broccoli, Brussel sprouts, cauliflower, kale until fall, the bugs just have a great time with spring planted brassicas in my garden. If you do, now is the time! Rain forecast for next weekend, all the above should be in your garden this week.

Blueberries and apples are ready to bloom. Should be picking asparagus within a few weeks.

Yesterday evening, worked some compost into some existing flower beds, horse manure around the perennials.

Making a new culinary herb garden closer to the house - I hate running out to the veggie garden for a handful of herbs while making dinner. Moved the chives over to it, and thinned the parsley, hope to have the bed complete and move thyme and sage this weekend. Basil will have to wait at least another month, too cold now.

Medicinal herbs will stay in the large bed, but I'm also revamping/moving things there.

I grow my herbs right next to the house for the same reason. Grabbing a sprig of Rosemary or Thyme in the rain, is a pain

I don't pre-start vining plants, they never do well for me. I direct sow in May. Same with cilantro, always bolts fast if I start in pots. Will direct sow this weekend once the new bed is ready.

And I always sow radish with squashes, and let them go to flower. Seems to really help control the squash bugs, tho the sevin will eventually get used.

I moved my rosemary last spring into this new bed, tucked right up next to the chimney. Some years it would winterover out in the open, every few years it would die.

This year it's gorgeous! Really likes the protection from the house. We've been having roasted potatoes with rosemary every other night so I can use up what I pruned off!

Just sneakin' around....
I used to have a huge garden, but over the years it's become shaded by huge trees and overgrown, no longer a suitable spot for a garden. So I just plant a few tomatoes and hope the deer doesn't get them. I also planted some Morning Glorys for the flagpole in the front yard.

Thanx! Hope they produce. The small tomato plants were Kumatos, seeds taken from a grocery store tomato. I was surprised they even sprouted, didn't think they'd be viable at all.
Hopefully they will produce Kumatos, they will sometimes revert to the muther plant.
