Gas ranges...

...anyone put in a good one? Happy with it?

Viking seems freaking rediculously more expensive than anything else.

Wolf?

I have a Frigidaire, fgfl87dc. It hass a self-cleaning convection oven and five sealed gas burners. The largest burner is 1600 btu. The cost was around $1,000.00 at Lowe's. I love it. I do a lot of heavy duty cooking (catering) and it serves my needs quite well.
Viking is so expensive because the are trying to make you think it is the same quality as the Viking commerical ranges. No comparison.

Larry, since it's highly unlikely that you will ever sell that house, and since you also don't cook and admittedly use the stove about twice a month, my opinion is that you go with a mid-range electric.

...but I'm getting gas anyone...I'll wait...

...as I was saying, I'm getting gas anyway for the fireplaces and sounds like I can get a decent gas range fairly inexpensive and I'd cook more often if I had it. I use the grill burner 2-3 times a week, plus Rammen for the kid, plus I haven't made bacon and eggs in forever, throw in the odd can of soup.

I want gas.

Eat beans.

On topic...I have had several gas ranges. Hated them all. I love my electric range. It always seemed as if there was never a simmer setting on the gas ones. Everything was brought to a boil. Granted, I never forked out money for a high dollar one, but never liked any of the ones I bought from Sears or that cames with the rentals.

Wolf?

I have a Viking and love it. I know some people who have Wolf and they like them also. No complaints on either.
As far as the no cooking comment earlier in the thread, I think once you have one of these you will enjoy cooking and might start doing it more.

Are you in a natural gas area? If not, I wouldn't recommend a gas range or gas anything else, propane prices are sky high, about $3.45 a gal. I had a gas range and a gas water heater and I was paying about $75-$90 a month. I changed both to electric and I'm saving a lot of money.

I did like my gas range better but I'm getting use to the electric one.

...regarding my lack of cooking is from a person who, to this day, had the best bowl of soup and best grilled sandwich of her life. From my kitchen. By may hand. :lmao:

Viking is just SICK $$$$

Is it really worth it???

My current plan is this;

JGP975SEKSS - GE Profileâ„¢ 36" Built-In Gas Cooktop - Features And Photos

I don't need the full set up because I have an electric double oven that needs to be replaced.

...that's a loaded question.

No, I am not in a natural gas 'area'. :lmao:

The company that would supply me is on the way over now with plans and prices to make me a natural gas...area.

BTW, I'd still be elec on everything else.

I have no idea what natural gas runs around here but I know it's a lot cheaper than propane.

Hope they give you a good price.

Larry,
I put in a GE profile slide in range a few years back, other than one of the elements (ignitors) going bad, i haven't had a problem. I put it in myself, its really not rocket science, you just need to buy a $20 flare tool.

...$18 a month for tank lease and up to 85#'s of gas. How's that sound?

I bought a 100# tank w/ fill and purge for $150 at ACE. I think it holds about 40# of gas.
I hated the gas company (suburban) so i do it myself no. Really not a big deal. I can manage the empty tank just fine, and the full one i can do by myself, just not easily.

I guess it will all depend on how much gas you use. Duh, I just reread that and I guess you get 85#'s of gas for $18 a month. That sounds like a good deal to me.

It is a macho stove. I have the full get up and I love to cook, but the GE looks great.
You will love cooking with gas and may find someone who appreciates your soup and grilled sandwiches.

I have a GE profile slide in, all gas w/ gas convection oven and electric warming oven...works great, no issues yet. try the Appliiance Source in Mechanicsville. They have a lot of selection, not the cheapest in town, but great to work with! You'll love gas. We just remodeled the kitchen and went away from our glasstop, wife LOVES it! And if she's happy, I'm happy!!!
