Gas War

Is there a gas war going on? This morning going through Leonardtown the prices were in the $1.85 range. In Callaway the quickstop was at $1.78 and on the A&W Rootbeer side it was $1.72. At the intersection of Greatmills Rd and Rt. 5 the Sheetz was charging $1.63 and then the Wawa in Greatmills was charging $1.61.

Are prices dropping significantly or is some form of competition taking place?

*Oil* prices are dropping, but not quite that much. It might also be coinciding with the end of summer, when gas usage drops a little.

Well I take it the information in your profile isn't quite right or you were living around the Alaskan pipeline because I don't think there was anywhere stateside that had gas that cheap in 1987 (some of us do read).

Last time I remember gas being that cheap was in the 60's. I can remember sitting in the back seat of our station wagon, and observing that we got about 3 gallons for a dollar (it was 31 cents a gallon). It went up to a whopping 60 some cents a gallon during the first oil embargo.

Hey, Ken! Thanks. FB's on his way to fill up the RV. :yay:
YW. I just called the wife and told her and the daughter to get the rest of the vehicles down there today. No telling how long it will last (or the hell I will catch this evening for waking her up).

I filled the truck this morning at it was only $35  I cannot remember the last time it was less than $40. WAWA $1.619

 You might very well be right, Sam. Sad as it may sound, I think expectation in consumer spending, ie., buying gas for those summer vacations/trips, drive the price of gas up.

Now that summer is almost gone, folks are winding down on their travel.

Of course, when it starts to get chilly out there, expectations on consumer spending starts to rise anew - but for a different reason - heating costs!

One big happy cycle, ain't it?

What's wrong with gas prices following supply and demand? Demand goes up, price go up. Nothing wrong with that, unless you're a Democrat and think businesses should lose money to give people what they want.

Nothin' wrong with it...
I have conspiracy theories, though, about oil cartels and price-fixing. :ohwell:

:killingme Sam, wait, whoa, hold on there; do you, for one moment, think these petroleum companies are losing money?
