Geek Squad Sucks!

I've had my Dell for about a year. I finally ended up with spyware that was wiping out my system. I bought spyware protection and updated my MacAfee. My system got worse and worse. Finally, I called the Geek Squad in California. I paid the $250 for them to come out and fix all the problems. The agent came the first time in late November. He left after 3 hours and said he had to come back later. A few weeks went by with no contact. We called him and he admitted that "we fell off his radar". He came back out in late December and stayed for a few more hours. He left a handwritten note that he cleaned out all the spyware (which I had already purchesed the spyware software) and said I needed more ROM. Now my computer is even more hosed. My desktop background is stuck in saved mode. I have tried everything to fix it. My MacAfee says my system is unprotected which I had up and running before the geek came out the first time. I have gone to the store and complained with no avail. I then called last week to get the name of the manager and was told he would call me back. HE HAS NOT! My machine is basically in operable. What should I do next!!! I have way too much invested in this machine to buy another one. Pluse I paid $250 for no help from them. I do not think I should have to say forget it and buy another hard drive. HELP!

Well to start McAfee is not exactly great AV software, and you pay for it. You could use Avast or AVG as they both work better and are FREE. There are also many free applications to address spyware that has infected your machine.

There doesnt seem to be much recourse you can take, other than go to the store and speak to the manager in person about this.

In the future id suggest a good firewall (also available free) and being more cognizant of the websites you visit, links you click, etc.

When I got this computer I told my kids that they were not going to use it! Well, being the softy I am, I gave in. My son started downloading AOL crap and firefox and other stuff I had not idea what it was. Now it's too late. I learned the hard way. I am just so pissed that there is no other way to get action from the geek squad. Their website does not have a place for unsatisfied customers. I'm not just off the radar with the agent, but with the entire company!

I'm sorry you are having issues with those clowns....A few years back I had a new stereo system installed in my automobile, complete with a behind the dash Ipod interface. I had to leave my vehicle there over night and when i came in the next day to get it they informed me that my Ipod was broken. Mind you i had ACCIDENTALLY left my Ipod in the center console, it was never my intention for them to get their hands on my Ipod.

When i asked what happened the kid informed me that one of the Geek Squad schmucks decided my Ipod needed a software update and that was when he completely lost all of the memory and whatever operating system the program uses....needless to say i went through the roof, went out to the Nerd Desk and started raising hell...he acted like it wasn't his fault and I finally yelled enough the manager came over..I got a new Ipod out of the deal, as I should had, but the fact I lost all that music still makes me angry!

Moral of the story, never use Geek Squad. ( I know good advice now!)

1: Reformat
2: Reinstall XP
3: Install Avast and Ad Aware (and maybe spybot if you want)
4: DL Firefox, but don't worry about 50 million toolbars for it
5: Quit trying to shoot Osama on the pop ups and stop DLing porn and song lyrics
6: Never trust a chain of computer 'experts' working for a walmart salary

My bill will be in the mail.

Download Adaware and Spybot Search and Destroy... make sure you update the definitions before you run the scan and do it yourself!

Or I will undercut Rack'm and do it for $200

It's funny, I build computers for a lot of people and everytime without fail, I'll do a fresh install of XP, DL adaware and avast and just for fun, run them before I do anything else. AdAware found 5 things to get rid of that I guess I accumulated from either the adaware site or the avast site lol.
