Genesis 1:14 And God said, “Let there be lights in the vault of the sky to separate the day from the night, and let them serve as signs to mark sacred times, and days and years, 15 and let them be lights in the vault of the sky to give light on the earth.” And it was so. 16 God made two great lights—the greater light to govern the day and the lesser light to govern the night. He also made the stars. 17 God set them in the vault of the sky to give light on the earth, 18 to govern the day and the night, and to separate light from darkness. And God saw that it was good. 19 And there was evening, and there was morning—the fourth day.
As some of you know, I'm out in Arizona now. The Arizona sky is generally crystal blue. The moon is visible in the sky almost every day. It doesn't add light to the day, but it allows us to see the phases of the moon easily.
When I was in Maryland I use to go out and look at the stars at night. The tilt of the earth on its axis gives us a different view at different times of the year. There are lots of links to those views.
The sun always "rises" in the east and always "sets" in the west at my house. The moon does the same.... but the moon is visible in different locations across the sky according to the season and the phase.
So it stands to logic that the stars and the moon can be used for more than the light they reflect at night. The stars and moon are a clock and calendar. How cool is that?
