Genesis 12:4 So Abram went, as the Lord had told him; and Lot went with him. Abram was seventy-five years old when he set out from Harran. 5 He took his wife Sarai, his nephew Lot, all the possessions they had accumulated and the people they had acquired in Harran, and they set out for the land of Canaan, and they arrived there.

We know that Sarai and Lot will have an impact on Abram.

This comes from the studylight.org commentary.

This was partial obedience by Abram. God commanded him to go out from his kindred, and he brought his nephew Lot.

Lot would not be a blessing to Abram. He would be nothing but trouble and inconvenience.

The easy English commentary offers this.

The distance from Haran to Shechem, which is in Canaan, is about 600 kilometres (400 miles).

The country was called Canaan because the Canaanites lived there. The Canaanites were the descendants of Canaan, who was a grandson of Noah.

Remember.... Abram couldn't just hop in the car and drive to Canaan. The trip was on foot. Virginia Beach is only 213 miles from Lusby.... so the trip they made was as far as Virginia Beach, VA and back.... on foot.... and they knew no one! According to this google search, the average man can walk about 20-25 miles a day. That means the trip of 400 miles would have taken about a week.

Hubby and I moved to Arizona. We drove for several days.... it's not an easy trip by car.... I can only imagine what it would have been like to walk all those days to a new place.
