Genesis 19 Lot new Sons

Genesis 19:33 That night they got their father to drink wine, and the older daughter went in and slept with him. He was not aware of it when she lay down or when she got up.

34 The next day the older daughter said to the younger, “Last night I slept with my father. Let’s get him to drink wine again tonight, and you go in and sleep with him so we can preserve our family line through our father.” 35 So they got their father to drink wine that night also, and the younger daughter went in and slept with him. Again he was not aware of it when she lay down or when she got up.

36 So both of Lot’s daughters became pregnant by their father. 37 The older daughter had a son, and she named him Moab[g]; he is the father of the Moabites of today. 38 The younger daughter also had a son, and she named him Ben-Ammi[h]; he is the father of the Ammonites of today.

g. Genesis 19:37 Moab sounds like the Hebrew for from father.
h. Genesis 19:38 Ben-Ammi means son of my father’s people.
i. Genesis 19:38 Hebrew Bene-Ammon

Ok... this is from the blueletterbible.org site.

We may be uncomfortable with the idea that the Bible includes the record of such disgraceful sins. Yet, Donald Barnhouse observes: "It is far better for children to learn the facts of life from the Word of God where sin is condemned than from dirty words on alley walls, or from lewd stories. No one can escape knowledge of sin … these things are never mentioned without being accompanied by the stern warnings that God hates sin and punishes it."

"Ironically, in his own drunkenness Lot carried out the shameful act that he himself had suggested to the men of Sodom: he lay with his own daughters."

Moab; he is the father of the Moabites … Ben-Ammi; he is the father of the people of Ammon: Their descendants will be enemies and obstacles for Israel, just like the descendants of Ishmael. Lot's life ended in ruin (past, present, and future), all because of his love for the world.

Black outs are nothing new I guess.

What are the odds that a man would become so drunk that he could not recognize his own daughters and bed each of them, on two successive nights no less, even though heavy alcohol intoxication inhibits sexual function? And the story becomes even more ridiculous when the daughters both get pregnant on only one encounter with their father.... :eyebrow:

The entire bible is chocked full of apocryphal stories like this. It's difficult to understand how anyone could take these stories literally. This is beyond gullibility. It must be self deception or self-brain washing motivated by a strong will to 'believe' in the unbelievable because one thinks it necessary for their 'salvation'.

Oh but when you have faith.... it opens the doors for miracles.

So, what you are implying is the God of Abraham intervened with a miracle to enable Lot's daughters to get pregnant. Therefore it was all part of God's plan for Lot to have sex with his daughters. This is not consistent with the apologetics you presented earlier.

That said, your God supports genocide, slavery, the taking of virgins as spoils of war, etc., so God condoning a father having sex with his daughters would not be inconsistent with his character.

Much as I dislike his style, I do have to agree he makes a decent point; if his daughters having sex with their father was against gods will, and an abomination in gods eyes, why would god therefore intervene and insure both became pregnant?

Where do you get the implication that this was any kind of a miracle, other than women getting pregnant? Sin committed is not God's plan at all, but the result of our fallen and sinful nature. God is not the author of sin - he allows us to do what we are going to do - the "free will" thing. Although God ultimately knows the entire script and story line, He lets us act it out all on our own, and the results are on us, individually or collectively.

Homosexuality and Incest are very touchy subjects. As a matter of fact, it seems that every time I go to talk about them on this site I get a virus on my computer or someone hacks my account. Sex is so enjoyable, sometimes humans just don't care who they are doing it with.

These people had no written laws or rules. The commandments hadn't even been passed down yet. Children were everywhere.

Humans were being human....

"Humans were being human"...if so, then why did everyone in Sodom, including the women and children, deserve to die? Where is Yaweh's compassion? And why annihilate Sodom for homosexuality, but have nothing to say about Lot and his daughters later getting it on incestuously? Your god seems just a tad capricious, not to mention vengeful and murderous, wouldn't you say?
