Genesis 2 On the Seventh Day

Genesis 2:1 Thus the heavens and the earth were completed in all their vast array.

2 By the seventh day God had finished the work he had been doing; so on the seventh day he rested from all his work. 3 Then God blessed the seventh day and made it holy, because on it he rested from all the work of creating that he had done.

In elementary school I had several teachers who made remarkable statements. When I read these verses I am reminded of a teacher who taught me how to paint with water colors on paper. She said, "Only you can know when your picture is finished. When your picture is finished, bring it up here and we'll hang it to dry." I remember when my picture was "finished" and it was hanging to dry... she said "now just look at what you have made. Take a minute to just appreciate it."

I think God took a minute to appreciate it. The earth was set on it's axis, it was spinning at just the right speed so that the sun, moon, and stars could shine just so. The plants were budding, blooming, going to seed and reproducing. The animals were all roaming and working and reproducing. Man was naming the animals and the plants. Man was learning and enjoying all he was responsible for.

Now history could begin. Memories could begin. God stepped back and looked at His work and just took a day to enjoy it.
