Genesis 3:8 Then the man and his wife heard the sound of the Lord God as he was walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and they hid from the Lord God among the trees of the garden. 9 But the Lord God called to the man, “Where are you?”

10 He answered, “I heard you in the garden, and I was afraid because I was naked; so I hid.”

11 And he said, “Who told you that you were naked? Have you eaten from the tree that I commanded you not to eat from?”

God had done His best to show Adam how much He loved him. He had given Adam a wonderful home. He had given Adam a wonderful woman. God had even given Adam a cushy job to occupy him. Naming the animals and plants couldn't have been that tough a job.

Adam had been instructed not to eat the fruit from this particular tree. Adam must have told Eve about the tree because she knew that she wasn't supposed to eat it. Adam must have been there when the serpent started talking to Eve. He just didn't speak up to the serpent himself. He should have said something to Eve. He didn't.

Eve should never have edited God's words. It was Eve who added the words "not even touch it" to God's instructions. Those few words gave the serpent the opening to coerce the fall. Eve had an easy life too. She had a wonderful place to live. She didn't have to cook, wash dishes, do laundry, or shuttle the children to and from there active social life. Eve had it made.

Adam and Eve had been the perfectly naive and innocent. Now, they were naked and afraid.

It's no wonder that God asked Adam [paraphrased] "What have you done?"
