Genesis 5:5 This is the written account of Adam’s family line.

When God created mankind, he made them in the likeness of God. 2 He created them male and female and blessed them. And he named them “Mankind”[a] when they were created.

3 When Adam had lived 130 years, he had a son in his own likeness, in his own image; and he named him Seth. 4 After Seth was born, Adam lived 800 years and had other sons and daughters. 5 Altogether, Adam lived a total of 930 years, and then he died.

a. Genesis 5:2 Hebrew adam

Did you notice, the author of Genesis leaves Cain completely out of this chapter. The easy English commentary explains why.

When Genesis describes two families, it first describes the less important one. And after that, it describes the more important one. So it describes the family of Adam’s son, Cain. And in this chapter, it describes the family of Adam’s other son, Seth. Cain was older than Seth. But Cain was less important because he was not sorry for his evil deeds.

This chapter describes God’s work and man’s work. God’s work was to create man. Man’s work was to increase so as to fill the earth. That was God’s command.

Studylight.org submitted this about Adam.

During this era, the world would be populated quickly. One writer has estimated that if Adam, during his lifetime, saw only half the children he could have fathered grow up, and if only half of those got married, and if only half of those who got married had children, then even at these conservative rates, Adam would have seen more than a million of his own descendants.

Using these calculations, we can say that by the time of the flood, there could have been seven billion people on the earth.

So now we know that the people that are listed in the Bible, like Seth, were important to the plot. There were lots of other people but we're watching lines to Jesus. There were lots of talented, good people, on earth that contributed to society. Look at Genesis 4:19-22 again. Lamech was a murderer but his children made great contributions to society.
