I wouldn't sweat the results til after that test. It could have just been something you ate before the test.

I had my test come back high and when I did the four hour test it was normal. I wouldn't sweat it til you have to. :huggy:

:killingme That'd require terbear to start acting like me, which just isn't going to happen. Hopefully somebody will respond to this thread who dealt with g.d. and will say that it wasn't a terrible problem...

:fingerscrossed:

:howdy: I had it! Not a real big deal for me. I had an appointment with a dietician that was referred by my OB. It's a fairly strict diet as far as how much you can eat and what you can eat. I have to say some days I could not eat all that you were allowed. They want you to maintain a certain caloric intake because of the pregnancy and to keep you sugars under control. Mine was breakfast, snack, lunch, snack, dinner, snack.... So basically you are eating nearly every few hours.

Now if your unable to control your sugar with diet, then there is medication involved. Thankfully, I was able to do it with diet alone.

Like the others said, I would not worry until you know its definite. I will just cause you and the baby undue stress.

P.S. My baby, who is now 10 was born healthy and average weight 7lbs 8oz, so she was not affected at all.

My wife had it with both of ours. Diet controlled with the first, insulin dependent for the second. Both kids turned out just fine.

It's a PITA to have to monitor blood sugar levels, stick to the diet, and shoot up insulin, but it's over as soon as the baby is born.

It does get you a lot more monitoring to make sure everything is okay. I think we got six sonograms for each kid. For the second one, since she was on insulin, we had to go up to Baltimore for a fetal EKG. She was also induced for both of them, which is convenient.

If you end up having it, and you want to ask any questions, let me know and I'll give you my wife's email.

:yeahthat: except that DQ was born on the bigger side ... 9 lbs 6 oz. Babies of gest. diabetic moms tend to be born on the bigger side. And it does suck a little bit, in that you feel like you're constantly eating even when you're not hungry. But if you can control the sugar via diet, you'll be fine. Just do what the doctor and dietitian say ... but don't sweat it until after you have the 4 hour test ... like someone else said, it might've just been something you ate when you had the prelim test.

thanks for all the info. I know I'm just over reacting. the whole idea of this kid being bigger than the first (she was 8lbs, 5 oz.) kind of scares me, that and having to give upice cream, it's the only thing that calms the heartburn sometimes.

You don't have to give up anything, you just have to eat the right amounts at the right time. With the popularity of low-carb diets today, there are tons of options. The low carb ice cream is even pretty good.

I had to do the 4 hour test and then my resting blood sugar was high but the rest were normal.

I had a 6 lb 11 oz baby, despite him being 5 days past due... there was no way I had them, despite the doctor not being sure if I did.

so, I failed th test, just barely. next step is a consultation with a nutrionist.

I've been in your shoes (21 years ago). Mine was controlled by diet and went away right after she was born -- healthy and diabetes free. The nutritionist will be a big help in letting you know what and how much to eat. I know lots of people say that babies of GD Moms tend to get big, but in my case, my daughter weighed in at 5 lbs, 13 1/2 ounces, so that isn't always true. Good luck and keep us updated! :huggy:

I'm at 28 weeks and had a scary moment yesterday morning and I wonder if I'm having blood sugar problems. I was driving my little one to daycare and almost passed out while driving and then vomitted. I felt very weak so I called in sick and had my husband pick me up from daycare and drive me home. I went in to see my doctor and he feels I'm dehydrated so I drank about a half gallon of water yesterday and I'm at work today, but I still feel weak. I go back on Thursday for my normal appointment so hopefully everything is better by then.

that is pretty scary! I've had an episode like that too, fortunately I was at home. don't know if it had anything to do with the diabetes
