Getting involved... Sexually

Its 2004, everyone is open to new things... Gay people are getting married, the pornography industry has soared to a new level with the internet and our grandparents can now get up and go at it like they they did at the age of 30...

Now for the question(s):
What age are people first becoming sexually active with other people? What age are people first having sex?
How many people wait until marriage?
What age do you and society feel it is acceptable to engage in these acts?

Is that your answer to all the questions?

I think it has to do with her :gossip: list because she prefers to not become beknighted in these types of discussions.

What age are people first becoming sexually active with other people? (Is this different from question 2? If by this you mean making out-) I'll guess 14, 15

What age are people first having sex? I'm gonna guess.... 16

How many people wait until marriage? I'm gonna guess about 2%

What age do you and society feel it is acceptable to engage in these acts? Probably 17-18

When you realize that humans are sexually mature long before they're emotionally mature, do you wonder if the universe is playing a sick joke on the human race?

There's no way for a parent to drill into their teenager's head that they DO in fact know what they are talking about; they DO in fact, know all the tricks; that they DO, in fact, know that, at their kid's age, they think they know it all, but in fact they DON'T because they, too, have been there.

You figure out how to make a teenager understand the facts of life at their age, and you'll bankrupt Oprah AND Dr. Phil!

Good point, crabcake. Why does it have to be like that? Why do we as humans have the capability to have sex before we have the smarts to deal with sex responsibly? Isn't that a bit like letting your 2-year-old play with a knife?

Ok, assuming that you are asking on when... then I will answer.

1. I was 13 when I actually "did it". Very young.. stupid and everything else in the book.

2. I think the general age is 17 or older.. but mostly from what BL said- in HS (when I wasnt sexually active) they were all getting laid.

3. If people are brought up correctly- then this will happen. I changed my outlook and such- and waited till I was married- not like that made it all better.. because I had already lost the one thing that was "mine".

4. I think society looks at it that at 18... you are free.. so they dont care from then on. Which is sad..

No, that is societal conditioning that it's okay to be emotionally immature because everyone has to tippy toe around everyone else's feelings nowadays. And teenagers are coddled and not given any adult responsibilities so of course they don't act responsible or rationally because they know mommy, daddy, and the rest of society will clean up after them.

It's been a trend in human biology that girls and boys are reaching puberty at much earlier ages than in centuries past. It wasn't unusual to celebrate a girl becoming a woman (biologically) at 16. It is STILL TRUE in parts of the world, such as in Africa, puberty arrives as late as 17, and averages 15-17. It may be a sick joke, but it seems to be more in line with modern medicine, infant survival and nutrition.

Is it really that kids are starting puberty earlier or is it that society has progressed to a point where it's just more commonly discussed nowadays (i.e., in the home, school sex ed classes, etc)? I know that in my mom's generation and previously, it was considered somewhat 'taboo' to talk about sex and anything remotely related to include when boys and girls reached puberty; it just sort of 'happened' and it was dealt with.
