At 1 point in this country, we didn't have a problem with the fascist symbol. They even put it on our money. It's also used as the backdrop in the House of Representatives.

The fasces represents unity & strength. Right up until 1939 I'm guessing.

As I recall, used as a reminder of the Res Publica Romana which the Framers of our Constitutional Republic took as a foundation.
