17 yr old goes to Dr. Kaplan in California($3600)....he has an severe underbite....so, we figured he was going to have to have surgery to have his jaw moved
When he first went to Kaplan all he told us was "yes, he can have straight teeth" and "no, he doesn't need his jaw moved"....we did the "expander" on the top to widen the palate(9 months)....then the braces(going on 2 yrs)
Now, we are talking to a dr. in Waldorf to have orthoganathic(sp) surgery to get the top jaw moved forward and the bottom moved back....and Kaplan says the braces get to stay on for another 2 years :headbang:
Total estimated time in braces 5+ years....I personally would not recommend Kaplan to anyone!
BG here. Kaplan is the azz that I went to during my first venture into braces. He initiallly predicted that I'd be in braces for 2.5 years. INstead, I was in braces in his care for about 4 fears, and then I did have surgery to move my jaw forward. It was a fiasco. Despite all the efforts of the ortho, the time spent, the money spent, and the pain endured, I still had a effed up smile. I would never, never, never, never, never, never, never, never, never, recommend Kaplan to anybody. Well, maybe to that guy who dumped me a few years ago. Yeah. I'd recommend Kaplan to that guy, but noone else.
My second course of braces was with a Doc in Waldorf. He was awesome. Unfortunately, all of his work fell to pieces when I didn't wear my retainer as directed. He has since moved to Texas from what I hear, but if he were still in the area, I would definitely recommend him.
My third time in braces was with Dr. Wood here in Lex Pk. Pretty good results in terms of the braces. I still have some lingering issues with veneers that he put on that won't properly adhere to my teeth, but that's a different story.
In summary, stay away from Kaplan. He is the Devil's Spawn.
