Give them to the USMC then...

Agreed. Stupid idea. No other platform in the world has provided as good a ground support capability as the Warthog. It is fast, incredibly sturdy, two engines that are protected, and has the tightest turn radius of any jet warplane.

AF personnel will not be the one's needing protection and support from the F-35. The people who do the real heavy lifting - Marines and Army - will, and that support will be nowhere as effective as the Hog.

I'm sure more than a few ground troops have appreciated seeing Puff the Magic Dragon (aka Spooky) show up too.
The A-10 is an awesome platform and quite a few fighter pilots are in awe of it's abilities. Once they've "circled the wagons", you might as well pull the ejection handle, cause your ride is done.
The F16, 15 and 18 aren't horrible at playing air to mud stuff. The hardest part is remembering the ground guys still think the earth is flat (UMC).

This is sad news. I know first hand the capabilities of the A-10 and have called in many fire missions with them back in my early Army days. The only other effective and quick support was the blackhawk. But during my tenure they were new and all the generals, foreign and domestic, wanted to witness their support.

And that congressman sounds like the typical clown we have in the house! I honestly believe that in order to qualify to run for any federal political position (ie. Congress), you must have honorably served in the military. The F35 is a failure. The only winner are the lockheed and the congress pukes in their pockets!

There once was a time, no long ago, that we had lots of strong military support in Congress. They are mostly all gone, dead or retired... the few still there have no power or voice anymore! Or we have schizo's like McPain!
