GMP Internet during past 3 weeks

Ok in my 4 years down here GMP cable and internet has been rock solid for me.

However, the past 3 weeks I have had internet issues after 630pm every night. My conneciton either gets very slow, goes away, and even my cable light on my modem will go out. All of this happens like clockwork every night.
Then the signal comes back for say 20 min then everything dies again.

I went to the GMP office and they said that it was bandwidth issues county wide and that they have some new equipment on the way to make things better.

Now I am willing to give GMP the benefit of the doubt as I have had no issues with them in the past. Also, with the county population exploding, the upgrade work, and primetime usage always increasing, I guess their explanation makes sense.

But at the same time, if it an equipment issue, why not send a mass email out? Let people know? Plus I have friends who have been problem free with GMP during this same time.

Has anyone else had these repeatable connection problems recently?

Ok fine, like I said, I have no real beef with GMP, they have been fine in my 4 years down here.

So: Why do some people have issues and others do not if it is a county wide bandwidth issue?

As you are married to a GMP tech (from what I have read) do you have any insight as to when this will get resolved?

You know I may have the name wrong:lol: I'll have to ask Cablechick:dork:

:huggy: You're 100% correct my little ladybug!

And why would a company want to publicly announce that they are having issues w/ bandwidth? Especially if it doesn't effect their entire sub base. It would make more sense, from a business perspective, to either fix it quick and keep quiet about it or inform customers as they call in to the office.

Thanks, CMC. I was wondering what was going on. Nothing I can't live with. Some nights are better than others. It's good to know they're taking care of it as quickly as possible.

Good news: In November all the complaints and gripes about GMP will stop.

Bad News: In November all the complaints and gripes about Harron will begin.

Why let the public know?

Well I'd say because you'd want to stop people from calling your office so real, non-county wide issues can be handled. Also, it shows you are
pro-active and care. That would go against all the nasty stuff people say about GMP. Finally, I remember GMP wide emails in the past that have alerted us to other things going on. So why not?

I just think going public lets everyone know that you are aware of the situation, know the cause, have a solution, and are working to correct the problem.

But yes I am with ya'll on the point of the signal being up and down. The past two nights I have been down 100% after 6:30. The previous 5 days before that I had some minor issues but still a decent speed.

But are they taking of it? Is this new equipment that they speak of real? Or are they just buying time until new ownership arrives? CMC, is there really new equipment on the way?

That's too much work.

Lol, that is exactly what is wrong with the service industry today. One simple email, that is all it takes. Like I said, GMP has sent these types of emails out before.

GMP Internet

To answer a few questions on some of the currents posts.

Cable modem service in St. Mary's county is an ever growing ISP service and hard to keep up with. With an increased customer base, and wide spread virus activity hitting the entire internet population its hard to control the amount of Malware, Spyware, Virus Content, Trojans, and what else consumes large amounts of bandwidth eating resources. Issues with Bandwidth i am sure will be resolved shortly with GMP.

As for an All user email, heck for as much as i know sometimes creates more problems then they are worth. 3/4 of the time people don't want all user emails explaining problems. They consider it spam or unwanted, and sometimes it creates a large amount of call volumes to explain the email in more detail.

As for new equipment, no thats not the case, more bandwidth to compensate for customers computers being infected or hammered for malware, trojans, and spyware, yes that i would assume is the case.

As for bandwidth arriving, its not really up to GMP, its up to GMP's provider and the local LEC, which is Verizon. So any delay in that would be because of them.

I hope some of this helps you in some way. Burgertime, you need to call the office, i dont think your complete issue is lack of bandwidth. Bandwidth would only account for your speed not your modem dropping off line.

I've had GMP's Internet service for about 4 years. Mine has always been good with a few minor exceptions. My service improved when they changed out the Com21 modems and went to the new DOCSIS cable modems.

My Internet service runs great since they have completed the cable system upgrade in my area. I like the new channels on expanded basic and my Internet runs faster and is more reliable than it was before.

When I started my bandwidth was about 500K and now it's 768K and my price is still the same.
