Bought some goodies yesterday for myself and a customer. paid for the expediated processing and also 2 day shipping and all of my stuff will be here today and tomorrow. I know that I could shop pricewatch and find some things a little cheaper but you can never beat their service.

I've been thinking about ordering from them. I used to shop price first, but with some of the experiences I've had, now I generally go with the vendors I've had good service from. I used to purchase IT equipment for an SSA Lab. Whatja get?

For myself I bought a Gig of memory for my T23 Laptop and an internal 802.11G wifi card for it Oh and a new Laptop backpack.

For my customer I got him an IBM R50e laptop, Linksys G Router and a canon printer plus I got a free stick of 512 memory for it so that will give him a gig of memory also.

I've been a loyal customer of ZipZoomFly since they were called Google Gear, and although they have the lamest name in ecommerce, they still rock. Very good prices and they always have free 2 day shipping (except on big stuff like cases). I've probably ordered close to a quarter of a million dollars of computer components and software from them over the years, and I have not had a single problem. But if they don't have what I am looking for I always go to NewEgg, which coincidentally has the second lamest name in ecommerce. Hmm, I'm starting to see a trend...

You shouldn't have paid for the expediated processing and 2-day shipping. I've ordered from newegg several times using the standard shipping and always had it the next day.

Newegg definitely rocks!

Due to the amount I was ordering and getting close to another holiday weekend I wanted to make sure the west coast stuff got here tomorrow cause UPS sucks and doesnt deliver on Saturdays. NJ orders are here today and the west coast stuff will be here tomorrow.

Kinda gives new meaning to the whole, "What can brown do for you?".. doesn't it?

LOL perfect example. On my doorstep tonight was a printer and a box with my memory, router and wifi card. Not plastic bag nothing just on the front stoop for all the world to see and mother nature to piss on.

btw: my dumbass self got the new 802.11g internal Mini PCI wifi card from intel but I didnt order the damn antenna so of course my wifi card wont pick up signal..

FCS, Is it difficult to upgrade memory in a laptop?
I've been doing various hardware upgrades to desktops and building my own desktops for years, but for some reason, laptops sort of intimidate me.

I'm shopping for a new laptop right now and was thinking of buying a refurbished Dell (with a Dell warranty), and I'm wondering if it would be cheaper to buy one with lower memory and then upgrade the memory myself.

It's probably easier to change it on a laptop than it is on a desktop. They all have access panels on the bottom. Just a couple screws and you're there. When I bought my laptop (Alienware Sentia ), It was cheaper to get the base memory (256MB) and then upgrade it myself. I upgraded to 1GB and put the 256MB SODIMM into my mom's new laptop which pushed hers up to 512MB.

BTW, got my mom's laptop from eCost for $600...AMD 1.6GHz, 256MB RAM, 40GB, 15" screen, all the other usual stuff. I got the Alienware for $1k after rebates (look at their "recertified" laptops)...2GHz Pent, 256MB RAM, 40GB, 12" screen (I wanted small and light).

Yeah very easy.. as has been said on the bottom of the laptop is an access panel swap in and out. Just an fyi since I know you travel alot. Dell Laptops are notoriously heavy thats why I have been using a thinkpad for a while now.

Here is the laptop I just got and it came with an extra 512 of memory so now I have 768 mb of memory for my customer and all under 800.00...
