Waldorf Senior Center will host a special day filled with History and Trains on Wednesday, May 11.
The day will begin with the Golden Spike Anniversary Re-Enactment set for 10:30 a.m. In Utah Territory 1869, a common railroad spike driven into an ordinary tie joined together the continent. Golden ceremonial spikes were used and are on display at the Golden Spike National Historic Site in Brigham City, Utah. Don’t miss the re-enactment by center staff and other “cast members.” This event is free.
Following the Golden Spike Anniversary Re-Enactment, Center participants will be able to enjoy the Painter Family Train Display from 11 a.m.–12 p.m. As a legacy to their father, John Painter, his sisters, daughter, and mother have been showcasing their hobby surrounding trains. Their train sets have no limit as each design is from their imagination. The Painter family thoroughly enjoys displaying the trains—their payoff comes from seeing the look of awe on people’s faces. This is a free event.
The day’s event will conclude with an Old Fashioned Lunch starting at 12:15 p.m., consisting of beef stew, red skin potatoes, glazed carrots, biscuits with butter, and delicious apple pie. The fee for lunch is by donation.
The registration deadline for this special day is Tuesday, May 10, by 10 a.m. For details and directions, contact the Waldorf Senior Center at 301-638-4420.
