Good Auto Glass Places?

So I was driving home today and took a big rock to the windshield off of a vehicle going the other way. ~100mph rock + glass = quite a bit more than just a chip in the windshield and a slightly frightened ylexot.

Anybody know of good places to get a new windshield? I know there's a place at the end of Great Mills Rd on Rt 5, but is there anywhere else? Anybody have good/bad experiences anywhere (getting new windshields, not in general )? Also, anybody know about how much it costs to get a replacement? I'm wondering if it's worth making an insurance claim ($250 deductible).

Abell Auto Glass 301-769-2426. He comes to you. VERY reasonable, excellent service! Don't file an insurance claim until you talk to Ronnie... He replaces all of the windshields in our company vehicles when they need them, so I have a lot of experience with his service.

Whoever you get to do it, make sure to specify OE (Original Equipment) glass. I used to work for a large glass company and I can tell you there is a difference in the quality of the glass.

I'll be heading over to D&S Glass Wednesday - I got a tiny chip on my brand new windshield today. I'll be so glad when they are finished doing the bypass work on Rt. 5, but of course, it would be way too far out of your way to use D&S.

ylexot, I had 3 giant cracks in mine just before getting in replaced. When the rock hit today I was :cussing:

I have a Suburban and a $250 deductable. The new window cost $258.56 :lmao: Yeah - Murphy's Law but I expected it.

I've always had good luck with all of the Royal Glass stores that I've used over the years.

Isn't it "comprehensive" insurance that covers glass? Mine has no deductable but my collision has $250.

That is correct. Glass is covered under comprehensive coverage. In many cases, if the damage is just a bullseye and not a crack, insurance companies will waive your deductable if they can repair the glass instead of having to replace it.

Royal Glass replaced mine a couple years ago. If you check out their website they may still have a coupon for $$ off the new one.

Cool! I didn't even think to check for a web site. They also have an online quote request form.

Thanks everybody!

Windshield

Hi,
Unfortunately, cracked/chipped windshields are a part of living in Southern Maryland.
Most people carry Comprehensive insurance; that should cover the repair/replacement.
I have used Royal Glass 4 times (twice for repairs and twice for windshield replacements) and they are very thorough and clean.
Good Luck.

Called them last night based on your advice - they just came to work and my windshield is beautiful once again! :diva:
