Goodbye to Charlie's Restaurant

:bawl: My FB update said "closed indefinitely" and they really are closed.

I've been to Charlie's twice. The first time was for ice cream. A trail of ants were on the ice cream display case. The second time we went for lunch when the in-laws were in town. My mother in law is vegetarian, so we were surprised to pay $10 for a grilled cheese and fries. The food was really good though. Unfortunately I'm not too surprised they are closed.

Daughter indicated she would keep it running. Wonder what happened? It is a long drive for the lunch crowd with gate 3 closed. The current govt shutdown put them over the edge?

Too bad.

Really it was just a matter of time. I am sure they kept it open out of respect for Charlie but without someone who knows what they are doing and especially has the time to commit to being there it just can't stay afloat. Each week the hours changed and got shorter and shorter. When they switched to opening at 7am they shot themselves in the foot by losing the base folks who have to be at work by 6:30 to 7am. When you close at 3pm in the afternoon you have killed all of your business except a lunch crowd. Closing on the weekends etc. When Charlie passed point blank they needed a fulltime manager. You cannot turn a profit when you only sell lunches to people on base and now with the furloughs no one will have any money to eat lunch anyway.

When I worked down at Webster I went to lunch there periodically. Good food, good service. I went in a few weeks ago for lunch with some friends and I was very disappointed. No complaints about the food, but our server was straight up rude and unpleasant. She spent most of her time ignoring us (they were not busy), we had to go get her at one point to ask for something.

That's the only time I've been in since Charlie passed, but it sure didn't make me want to try again.

My kids and I ordered grilled cheese and fries a few times. We paid about $4-5 each.

I noticed a change since Charlie passed also, but I was hoping it was only temporary. Obviously it wasn't.

I didn't eat off of the kiddie menu and I know damn well that I didn't pay $10 for it. :lmao:

Every meal on the menu was the same price- $10. Didn't matter if you ordered grilled cheese or the chili burger. I felt bad because I suggested Charlie's and the in-laws agreed to buy before we got there. You should've seen the look on our faces when we saw the price! This was the end of August, so maybe they increased prices since you were there?

You must have gotten the kiddie version then. all the sandwiches - regardless of what it was - at one point was $12.50. Of course, you could have gotten a deal because maybe you were buddies?
Right before he died, Charlie lowered the prices. Still tho, paying the same for a grilled cheese or a BLT as a steak and cheese sub or a burger was ridiculous. But honestly, this is par for the course, it seemed that Charlie always had restaurants that only stayed open a year or two then closed them down.

At one point the grilled cheese was $8.25 with MEAT (bacon or ham) and fries and a lot less if you requested it without meat and/or without fries.

But later on the price became $10.75 for everything.

So everybody is right.

Now everybody’s going to be fighting about money because of the stupid furlough. It's putting stress on our internet relationships. :bawl:
