As a publisher, I can't say I blame them. Too many people expect publishers to work for free. The independents who can't survive on a subscription model will eventually be wiped out. Then, the masses can all go to the Facebook Digital Ghetto. Facebook will eventually be replaced by a distributed social media platform which can't be censored or shutdown because it resides on thousands of independent computers across the world; someone is already working on one. Wouldn't be surprised to see it funded by one or more Bitcoin billionaires who pledge enough money to keep it free of corporate influence forever, somewhat like https://telegram.org.
I don't use Chrome, but for other reasons.
