My parents gave us a great electric fence this weekend, and I hope to install the sucker next weekend. I hear there's a special thing you can rent that's just for laying the wire in the ground and makes it go super duper fast. I'm looking forward to having it installed and ready to go!

I have been wanting to get one, but have doubted whether or not they will really work as promised.... I trust your review more so than the generic reviews I have found on the net I expect a full report...

Certainly! Every neighbor of ours with a dog has an electric fence and they all rave about them. On a nice spring day you drive up the street and see the weimaraner at the edge of his lot, the beagle across the street, the boxer, the cocker spaniel, etc... and no one bothers no one because they no it'll be to no avail to try to get close.

Oh your poor little doggie. We had one for 2A's giant doberman and I would never use one of them again. :frown:

Anyone want to buy it?

But wait, there's more...
I heard that if a dog is determined enough, it'll just bolt right through the electric field for it's "objective" :ohwell:

Ooooh the trama of seeing a 110 lb. dog shake when shocked and the look in his eyes. :bawl: Our fence was an "extra-strong top of the line model" and you could control the warning the dog gets before the actual shock comes but a determined dog doesn't care.

And yes, once the dog goes thru the fence you can be damn sure it's NOT coming back in again. They get shocked again when/if they return to the yard, now think about that, would you come back in? :really:

For me, it was just easier to train Bear to stay within the perimeter of our yard when he was a baby rather than try that again. Plus, I wouldn't put his well-being in some fence that only controled him, when other strange dogs can wander in when he's out there alone. He doesn't stay outside alone - ever.

I had one.
It worked for the Lab, but the Border Collie would run right through it.

:yeahthat: My sister's does that. The dog stays in the fence for anything, except for when my sister or her husband walk off the property (across the street to grandpa's, the car, anything).

If she wants to go, she backs up really far, then makes a run for it and leaps over the boundary, yelping as she gets a big shock. It's really quite sad. My sister chains her up now when she wants to go somewhere.

How are you and the pooch making out with the fence...

Haven't had much time to train her on it, so although it's installed and working, we haven't actually put it to use yet.

There's just one problem with these

The only problem with these is that they're invisible to delivery people, or other visitors.

When I was a yute, I used to deliver pizza, and I remember this one house in Wildewood that I came to. There was no warning, or info on this house, and when I got there, here come these two humongous dogs - don't remember if they were rotweilliers or german shepherds, or what - I do remember hauling ass back to my car, and driving away.

I called them a few minutes later, and told them that I'd have their pizza whenever they put their dogs indoors.

They basically said "Don't worry about it, just walk up to the door".

I basically told them, "Not a ####ing chance."

Then they explained about the electric fence.

Those dogs stalked me right up the sidewalk, up to the front door, but they never crossed the line.
