Take a clip on lamp with a 25 watt bulb, place it on a chair or surface about 1 foot above a wide pan of soapy water (Dawn dishsoap works well). Shine the light at the pan and turn off all other lights. The fleas are drawn to the warmth of the lamp and try to hop to it and instead, fall into the soapy water. This is a safe way to capture fleas in your carpets and near your pet's sleeping area. Just make sure you set this up in an area where someone, like a child, cannot get burned by the hot lamp.

Hmmmm.....I'm gonna have to try that. I might get a couple lamps and bulbs. MY place is overrun with the d*mn pests.....poor kitty scratches herself scabby. /:-\

I just thought of something.....you said "wide pan." Do you mean like a baking pan (with the raised edges) or would a glass 6"x9" pyrex or glass pan work?

The depth of the pan probably doesn't matter although you probably want to make sure there is always soapy water in it. The idea is to get them to jump towards the light and them they fall in. The wider the panor dish, the better.
