Gotta think sideways sometimes. Just wish it would happen

faster So, replacing a front hub bearing assembly on the 97 BMW. Freaking almost $90 for a 1 and 13/16ths socket and 3/4 breaker bar. Slide hammer pulls off most of the hub, leaves inner race behind. Slide hammer arms wont grip the u-shaped groove. Try heating it up, little heat gun cant get it hot enough. Start cutting it with the dremel, get about 90% of the way through, get a bit worried I'll damage the axle. Stop and think, "Well, the issue is no landing zone for the arms...... Dremel goes though this like buttter...... lets just make a landing zone" 2 minutes later, nice flat spots in the groove, 10 seconds after that, it's off. And now, lacking the special BMW $400 bearing install tool, time to toss the new one in the oven for a little while. And if that doesnt work by itself , I'll get some wart freezer and cool the axle too.

And 20 minutes at 200 degrees later, that hub went on with one gentle tap of the sledge, just sild right on there. Who needs that $400 special tool :)
