Wisconsin's quarterback, fumbles in the 5th quarter....shattering records and trophy.... Duke's employee is responsible..
What seemed to be the highlight of the (highly sought freshman quarterback) Wisconsin's Graham Mertz's career, came crashing to the locker room floor Wednesday night after winning the Duke's Mayonnaise Bowl.
Wisconsin defeated Wake Forest moments before and was presented with the glass trophy in a stadium filled with cardboard cut-outs of actual people. The P/A system went wild with 8 trak pre-recorded crowd noises.
With social distancing rules in place, the team shared quiet moments in the locker room probably smiling under their masks with exuberance! Unfortunately, and unknown to Mertz, a lowly Dukes employee had mayonnaise on his hands when preparing the trophy for shipment and upon passing the glass football to his wide receiver, well, he fumbled.
Ethyl, Graham's great grandmother, fell asleep in her New York tenement.
