Grand Jury Duty?

I received my summons for Grand Jury Duty a few weeks ago and it's for a 6 month term. Has anyone else had this? How often do you meet in those 6 months? When you meet does it last all day? Thanks.

I had Grand Jury for six months and we met once a month. Had to be there most of day, but they gave lunch break. You just hear presentation after presentation. You are given evidence by States Attorney and your group will decide if they have a case or not. If yes an indictment will be issued. Some cases were strong and other wasted our time. But remember it will be your choice. Enjoy

I actually enjoyed it.
Went on the first Monday of each month for about 4-5 hours. One day we were there less than 30 minutes. Just depends on how much crime is happening and what might make it to the jury. We heard cases ranging from possession a rolling papers to attempted murder.
We did have to show up on an odd day once to hear testimony from a case in another county. A child abuse case that needed an emergency jury. Went in for 45 minutes or so that day.

I will be on (regular) jury duty from mid Dec to mid Jan. I am guessing there won't be a lot going on as most attorneys are going to be skiing in Aspen or enjoying umbrella drinks on some Caribbean island.
It says I have to call the night before.
The court system fascinates me however I don't look forward to a month of uncertainty; whether or not I will have to actually serve.

:yeahthat:

I've served on the Grand Jury twice. We met on the first Wednesday of each month. Each session ran between 4-6 hours. On a typical session, Fritz would walk in first thing with a big stack of drug cases. We actually looked forward to B&E or assault cases just to break up the monotony of the drug cases.

Ignore it, they don't prosecute the real criminals in the county, they sure as hell won't prosecute an AWOL juror.

I just received it also for Charles County, starting Jan. 6th. I have been wondering the same thing?

Be thankful your not on the Federal Grand Jury. That last for 18 months and you meet every week for the entire 18 months. So far I've done 17 months and I have 3 day left to meet. It's a long drive too. We meet up in Greenbelt.

How did they let you know you were suppose to meet on that odd day? Or are you suppose to call the number every night?

I got called for grand jury last year, but had plans to leave the country already, and notified them when I went online to fill out the form. They mailed me back saying thanks, and that they didn't need me, so i didn't have to serve. Thank god, I hate jury duty lol

They actually called the jury in for that. Not everybody showed but there was enough for a quorum. It's a rare occurrence to be called in like that.

I have had to go the last 3 times I was chosen, I got out of all Jury Selection Pools ....

Yes sir I am biased, Police and DA's are inept when it comes to building cases .... mine never should have made it through the front door .... no I cannot set aside my bias ....

Thanks Have a Nice Day ....

What time did you have to report in the morning every time you met? On the first day, do they do the actual selection?

Believed we started at 8. We did have a holiday push it to a Thursday one time.
If you've already received a summons for the grand jury and have no excuse to not serve then mark your calendar. You've already been selected. They'll have 23 (I think) people branded for the 6 month term.

me too! not sure which would be worse, having to go in for jury duty or having to stay at work and proctor exams.

So I spoke to someone today and got some information. They met one Friday every month. 80 people got the same letter we did, and they are in the process of picking the 28 people that will serve. She said in a few weeks you should be receiving a letter letting you know if you have been chosen or if you will be a back-up juror and it will give you all the information on the meeting dates for the next 6 months.
