Well Dunkirk is morphing into the hood!
Wish "we" still owned it....LOL. Family landed in the area around 1650 (the part of the family that didn't land in 1634 in 7D) and had a large chunk of the grant that extended from bay to river, east-west, and Huntington-Dunkirk, north-south. The ferry at the end of Ferry Landing road was a family-run operation. If my family facts are straight, the park property at the end of Ferry Landing Rd was the last of the "old" family property holdings left over from the grant or patent. The part of the family I'm directly descended from had moved to Virginia during or soon after the Revolutionary War. Bunch danged pacifists (Quakers..)

Did you by any chance know the Phipps family, they had a farm on Ferry Landing Road.

Wayyy before my time....my direct ancestral connections had all left by the 1800s, although there are still lots of Plummer folks in the Calvert and Anne Arundel area that are distant relatives. My immediate family from there was Govers...if I recall correctly, Ferry Landing Road was once called Gover Ferry Road.

Just thought I would ask. Thanks

That will make how many Dollar stores in Calvert? Three. Currently a Dollar Tree in Prince Frederick and a Dollar General in St. Leonard.

Then how many other off-price stores in the County? Keep in mind that those businesses are activity recruited by the County's Department of Economic Development.

The fact that they're locating here, especially in Dunkirk, should tell you something about the very special people who live here now and the under radar poverty level there is.

Out of touch anecdote:
I was watching a North Beach P&Z meeting the other night when a person there said that, this was in regards to parking requirements, everyone he knows in Town works from home, most for the FedGov so residential parking really isn't an issue. In reality, 75% of employed North Beach residents commute to work, most by themselves.

Not so sure they recruited them, Dollar Generals are popping up every where in the US at a breakneck pace.
Yeah, they were recruited. Maybe not actively but by various notifications. Those companies have headhunters out all over the place looking for locations. When they find a possible they'll contact the local government for information and receptiveness.

DG does for me what 7 Eleven USED to be - a quick way to get one or two items I need in a pinch. Milk, cheese, chips etc.
They're the only store I know of that still sells bagged cereal. They used to be my go to place when I bagged my kid's lunches, for snacks.

Used to be that "drugstores" filled this need, but I don't have any of those anywhere near conveniently located. All of those style drugstores - the ones that sell everything - are too close to regular supermarkets to be a preferable choice.
