My neighbor up the street has 2 great danes and they are pussy-cats! They are so gentle, and loveable. They are really BIG but other than that....I think they are great dogs.

A former coworker of mine had 8 of them. :faint: She brought one of the "pups" in once and he was the most well behaved dog I've ever seen.

the one thing I know about great danes, is the love to be loved. My friend has one, and don't think that if you sit down he will let you forget he wants loving. He would come push is head against you until you started to pet him.

my hubby and i had one and they are great big babies. the ppl we got him fr spent half the year in florida working in the orange groves and his brother was supposed to take care of him, he didnt. he was almost 2 when we got him. best dog ever(next to the lab we have now). he always pushed his head against us or leaned against our legs for lovin. i totally want another but we just dont have room. i've heard they are one family dog, once you bring him home, he's yours for life, lol.

That's what I am looking for, THANKS.
All the dogs I bring home are for life, just like having another kid..

Great Danes are wonderful dogs! I lost my first one to cancer back in August. We now have a new addition to the family; he is 15wks and an absolute joy! The Mid-Atlantic Great Dane Rescue address is http://www.magdrl.org/ . I can’t say a bad thing about them other then the shorter then usual life span, and maybe the costly vet bills but you get use to it after a while. Paying for a 150lb dog sure isn’t the same as a 50lb. PM me if you would like more info on the breed

I had a beautiful brindle female-they are "leaners" and tend to slobber....only regret is, they don't live as long as a smaller dog :ohwell:

Great dogs, very affectionate. Be sure to have a towel ready for after they take a drink or you will end up with a wet lap.

Just read up on bloat and make sure you know what to look for. A friend lost a three year old to bloat after he ate too much snow, and that was even with knowing the symptoms.
