But I hear you can get :gossip: pretty easily..

Crabs?

Actually the area out flat iron road is pretty nice. The way zipcodes and such work in St Marys someones address could be Great Mills but they are not in Great Mills, really screwed up if you ask me.

Great Mills - Just say no.

It depends on what you are looking for: good schools, houses with much land, houses with no land, normal homes or McMansions, convenience, commuting distance.....the list goes on.

I think what you heard bad things are mostly Great Mills RD which is in Lexington Park and the city of Great Mills. There are some good housing in the city of Great Mills. Are you looking for apartments or houses?

Great Mills Rd or city?
Both. I have lived all over this county for over 20 years.. It's only been in the last 5 that things have gotten so bad that I won't even go in to Lexington Park to shop. I hate the changes that have come to this area and I will ride out on the first thing headed to the woods when I get a chance..

I know most will say, "good riddance" or "please leave yesterday".. Those are the ones who don't mind it that there are homeless in the woods behind Canopy Liquor or that you can't go to any of the stores in LP without being panhandled or accosted by a crack head because it never really touches them. They are the ones who want the SUPERWALMART and the rediculous homes big enough to house the 40 mexican laborers who have come here to work, but are living in the A&E Motel.

I happen to think that the reason that GM and LP are so bad, is because those who can't keep up with the progress had to settle somewhere.. You build up an area and it makes a puddle of human refuse somewhere.. Naturally, it will have been the most urban part of the county.
People poke fun and say that the whole area is trashy and scum filled.. Well everyone who lives here has had a part in making it that way. Well I do have some really nasty neighbors and worry about the cars driving by my house.. But prior to a few years ago, it wasn't like this.

I'd have to say it's more Great Mills Rd than the city of Great Mills. There are some nice places to live in both GM and LP. They do have plenty of nice neighborhoods along Chancellor's Run and recently they've been building housing in the $300k range

I live in Hickory Hills which is off Chancellor's Run. That is in Great Mills, and I have had zero problems, I love my neighborhood.

I live in the neighborhood behind the car wash, skate park or Patuxent Park. Is it rough? In some areas. Are some people trying to clean it up? Yes. I won't pay 300K plus for a house. It's just against my principles. If you were to drive through this area, you'd see some rough homes and some nice homes. With the price of homes in the county, this neighborhood is what you get for around 120-175K. If more people bought these homes it could be a very nice place to live. Canopy Liquors and the A&E Motel are an eyesore. The county needs to entice those companies to go away. I love Lorenzo's Pizza. Kinda spooky going there to pick up pizza sometimes. We have to take back our little city. Call the county and complain.

I agree Bucket.. I once lived in a house in that "hood" I never had trouble with the neighbors but my landlord was practically a slum lord and I was warned by Metcom that I would have trouble with him on day one. :ohwell:I have lived all over the county. My first apartment was in Flat Tops and I kept it up nicely. You couldn't beat 300 dollars a month. I have never paid more than 750 for a place around here. I can't see paying 1500 a month and not own the home.
I don't think the local Gov't really cares about the local population.. It seems to me that they could have been working on making the LP and GM area better years ago. They are only working on the "revitalization" since there's outside $$ coming from all those Navy people who complain that they are living in the sticks. I can count at least ten buildings that are for lease or rent in the area, yet we are going to get two new strip malls.. WOOHOO! A Ross and a Petco.. :sarcasm:
I saw that they are building another low income apartment complex...This is beginning to creep in to every corner of St. Mary's. I don't see how building slums will cure the low class of being low class or improve the quality of living near Pax River.

I just moved into a new house in the Westbury subdivision across from McKay's on Great Mills road. I'm on the other side of Pegg's Road. It's a Lexington Park addy, but not a bad area. Hopefully my house price will climb even more after Ryland homes finishes what they are going to do in the next phase of Westbury.

It's not a bad area, I live in a housing development off of Buck Hewitt Road, and I love it. The streets that run off of Chancellors Run Road are probably one of the best places to consider housing. Good luck! :yay:

Not to mention how well Chacellor's Run is built for traffic. :sarcasm:
