Brawling Fever at Great Mills, Crowd of Kids Arrested After Lunchroom Brawl
GREAT MILLS (JAN. 18, 2007) At 10:40 a.m. Thursday, St. Mary’s County law enforcement responded to Great Mills High School for a reported large fight in the lunchroom.
As many as 10 students were taken into custody by police, including at least two girls, and most likely more were involved.
One Student was taken was ambulance for cuts to the head.
One student fled the scene and was captured by police down the road at St. Mary’s Square.
Officers are currently sorting out the crowd of brawlers, handing out second-degree assault charges. Parents are responding to the high school.
The incident comes on the heels of a “basketbrawl” at a Great Mills High School basketball game last Friday night.
Players and spectators got entangled on the court at the basketball game between Great Mills and Thomas Stone High School in Waldorf, St. Mary’s Sheriff’s Lt. Daniel Alioto confirmed.
Nine players were ejected, two juveniles were arrested and the crowd of ticket holders were evacuated from the stands by police just before halftime. No one watched the second half of the game except police.
Other police officers followed crowds of teenage and teenage-minded fans who took to the streets all fired-up after watching the brawl, converging Sheets and other locations.
Lt. Alioto said officers dispersed the crowds with little incident and some patrol cars arrived at hang-outs before the crowds did.
