Great Place to Overnight Trail Ride with your own horses

There is a wonderful campground in Hancock MD that has a nice 20 stall barn that we've stayed at for many years. We usually go at least once or twice a year. They usually have their barn booked full and are hard to get in but this summer has been difficult for them. Their website is www.happyhillscampground-md.com/index.htm (I'm a newbie at this computer and forum stuff!) and has a great discription of the place. It is a full campground with mini golf, pool, etc for the non-horsey family folks and they have some really nice trails. There are 2 types - their trails on the mountainside, shoes at least on front strongly recommended - and you can hop onto the C & O Canal towpath and ride for miles, no shoes but you need a horse who can handle the occasional bike riders, hikers, canoe-carrying monsters, etc. up close and personal. At the campground there are ATV's owned by the year round campers and most are EXTREMELY courtious when using them around the horses. In Hancock there are some great restarants, the Park & Dine is a must!!!! It takes about 2 1/2 hrs to get there and you do have to take the beltway and 270/70 but we think it is worth the trip. You don't have to worry about tying your horse out overnight and getting into trouble, You can bring a tent, sleep in the trailer or rent a nice cabin. They are looking at turning the barn into storage compartments if they don't find enough horse business and that really would be a shame for more info please email and I can give you details of the trails and such
