Not too cold, and the fog effects were fantastic. :yahoo: I think weekend sunny day riders miss some very great rides.

A torn rotator cuff has my bike parked - just don't have the strength to hold my bike upright. Missed all that great weather at the beginning of the month!

Lucky for me, my back issue is actually helped by riding the bike, since it allows a much better posture than any car.

No, they don't. Anyone who just wants to ride when it's nice shouldn't ride when it's not. To me, you gotta wanna ride when it's slippery, rainy, cold, what have you or you're gonna be nervous or unhappy or distracted and that's no good!

Some of my all time favorite rides were/are bad weather.

Come take my '47 flathead for a ride.

Then get back to me on that "all weather" sentiment of yorn.

That's different. I'm not talking about parade vehicles and antiques. Riding a modern bike is thrill enough for me let alone managing to shift with my hand, clutch with my foot, throttle with my teeth, use my kidneys as shock absorbers and stop by tossing an anchor.

I think ItsBob still holds the title of foul weather rider. Saw him pass me on 235 on his bike in a rain/snow/ice shower.

Seems to me he took a long distance ride in some pretty foul weather too.

I draw the line when water starts changing to a solid. I'll ride in a thunderstorm, in shorts and a t shirt but, if stuff is freezing, I'm done.

Wayyy back...when I was a poor college student and working two side jobs; I had a Yamaha 175 that I rode year 'round the 5 miles to school/ 7 miles to work, but all "in town" driving and no more than 30 mph. Lafayette, Indiana...gets LOTS of snow in the winter. They do not use salt and don't use much sand.

The technique I used to stay upright on the packed snow and ice was to ride with both feet perfectly flat on the road surface in as wide a stance as I could manage and use them as "training skis". Then just let the rear tire spin merrily away and sorta point the bike in the general direction of "ahead" and hold on.

Never woulda got away with that silliness with a heavy bike..or at any kind of speed above 30.

Couple of times I've come home and said.. "WTF was I thinking!?!" but it sure was fun and exciting at the time.

Have pictures somewhere of my windscreen and my helmet visor covered with ice...

And the looks I get from the cars at stoplights are priceless...

Yeah, it can be done. I ride my ass off around the farm when it's snow covered, dirt bikes. One of my more recent 'get offs' was slamming into a nice, soft drift that just happened to be tire ruts from the prior snow. Froze solid. With a fluffy coating. That's the nice thing about enough speed; it's not like you have some sort of clanky, slow speed, desperate clutching fall where you're grabbing and clawing and getting a bunch of small injuries in the process; you just...get off. All at once.

My most memorable ride was when I was in the Navy, leaving the house to go to the ship, Ice storm, roads covered, Car wouldnt start.
there is a certain pucker factor that comes from riding 15 miles on ice on the bike.

Had two of them. One in each shoulder. Surgeries on both. They'll heal and you'll be riding in the Spring.

My bike LOVES the cold..

She just wants to keep bouncing off of the Rev Limiter when the temp drops below 50..

I keep telling her NO!!, but she just doesn't listen..
