Yeah, okay.
Thinking about going there for the first time, for lunch today. Past recommendations on here have been that the food is good. Checking to see if anyone has gone recently and if it is still a good place to try? TIA!!

It's very good. I get the steak and cheese. I've been there a couple times. They even have sum hot wings that you need to sign a waiver before you can eat them cuz the are so hot. I tried them one time. They are hot to.:buddies:

We went and it was good. The service was excellent, as was the food. I would go again!

It wasnt crowded at all though. Is it too far for people on base to go?

If you're talking about for lunch, my guess would be yes, too far to go when there are so many other choices so close.

Ok its 1115 and the place is dead......came here about 6 months ago for lunch and the place was packed.....I know Rick moved on. Is there something else that would explain the current lack of customers?

Way cheaper to go during happy hour when prices are way better. Might just hit it up this afternoon for wings.

I hadn't heard that, too bad.

Rick's taken his kitchen talents to Chief's in Tall Timbers. Been a couple times...limited menu but quite good.

He moved on from Gridiron quite a while back..last fall actually.

I was wondering why it was so crowded when I went by there last Thursday, on the way to Reluctant Navigator.

It is nice to have more than one local option again...

Hit the Navigator probably too much since I keep the big boat there. Can't wait for spring opening but then wear out the menu options in a month. LOL...

I'm interested in hearing recent reports on the Gridiron's food too. Have not been there but once since Rick left..not for any particular reason though.

Late dinner crowd on most nights is standing room only. They pack them in! Have never had a bad meal there and love love love their wings and beers happy hour style :)
I think lunch is hit or miss. Distance vs demand. But most days, they have quite a few cars in the parking lot.

We went maybe a month ago. Service was lousy. Was even told that they NEVER had the oyster platter that I had the last time I was there . We sat there a good 10 minutes before.someone waited.on us. The food was ok but not worth going out of our way for. The oyster platter that I apparently never had there was worth it!

That was my experience there as well. We went a few months back. While my wife liked her meal, neither of us liked some of the other items - for example, the onion rings were the worst I've ever had, and I've tried to make them myself, badly. We could NOT get hold of our server at all, and she got almost every item wrong. I don't plan to ever return.

Something every restaurant owner should know, but, SERVICE is what makes people return. People will go back to a restaurant with great service and mediocre food, but they won't return to a place with bad service no matter how good the food is.

Being a former restaurant and bar owner myself.....

You are correct. However, I found that maintaining a focus on great service and managing to achieve that routinely and reliably was like herding cats or betting on the ponys. . You (the owner/manager) are trying to achieve good things with employees who are not particularly well-compensated, not necessarily that reliable, not always very motivated..etc.

I have immense respect for those establishments that reliably 'get it right. It's tough...I can't say I ever got it where I wanted it to be with my own business. Some days were great..others, not so much.

Instead of wondering how the food is lately..three of us ate there last night to discover for ourselves. Place was nearly full but the service was snappy and friendly and the food was just fine.
