Groomer....

:coffee: Good Morning.

Can anyone recommend a good dog groomer in the area? I have a mini-daschund and she needs her nails trimmed. I have tried doing this myself, but I'm always scared I'm going to hurt her.

Where do you take your pets?

:howdy:

The only ones I know of are Petco and Lori Be's Pet Center. Any comments on these places? I'm not taking my baby to just anyone!

Honestly I hate to get into this..but recently I have had 2 or 3 people come in to day that students are working on dogs...and that the teachers are just groomers that are not taught to teach. I had a groomer friend that applyed for a job there tell me they were told they had to train and if the student messed the dog up the groomer had to take the blame..she did not take the job..

your dog here would be $15-18 I have openings still before Christmas for non clip type of things...its an easy job..should have no trouble finding someone to do it..Pegster here has two mini dasch she gets done here and I have one myself..

I vet showed my husband and I how to do it when we first got her, but it just makes me nervous to do this. You didn't state where you do this at. What place do you work at?

Thanks for the reply. :flowers:

I have taken my dog to Lori Be's twice now, but I think that's it. I'll try Petco next. For full service I paid $30. Getting my dog in the tub isn't a problem, she's fine with baths. Now clipping the nails on the other hand, she's a chocolate lab/corgi mix, so they are dark nails. I'm not going to try those myself. I never really noticed the first time we had taken her there since we were still in the middle of moving and I had alot of things on my mind, but this last time, I don't think the lady even bothered clipping the nails on her back feet. The lady is always polite, it's never an issue of customer service. I just think that's kind of pricey for care I'm not overly impressed with.

You can also take them to your vet's office. I have a mini daschund also. Usually I just nip the ends. I don't like doing it either. Mine sounds like your killing her before you even touch her paw..It's funny but ear busting.

Which county are you looking in? I can reccommend one in Calvert, but from the posts it looks like you are in St. Mary's?

Top Notch Grooming Service (Three Notch Veternary) off Airport View Rd in Hollywood. If the nails get long they can't be cut down because of the quick, but they can be filed. Top Notch will do that.

I took mine to Petco, and the cut his back nails to short TWICE, and then didnt even clip his front nails.....and when I got him back, he smelled like a dog, it didnt seem they used any type of fragrance shampoo, so Im doubtful on taking him back to PETco..... and it took FOUR HOURS.... I couldnt believe that....they only had 2 other dogs at the time...normally I do it, but at the time, they had some deal thing goin on, so my gf wanted to take him there....

What type of dog? how much does he weigh? What did that charge you?

Rotti, 140-145ish, and it was free because of what they did to his back nails..2 of them bled for I dont know HOW LONG before I got there, and then they gave me that quick stop junk to put on there if it bled some more... needless to say, IM DONE WITH THEM.....

But because he's a Rotti, doesnt mean he's mean!! he's a good boy :)

just a lil hyper at times

Well nails do get clipped to short..by the vet or by me...stuff happens..I think he is a big boy and probaby does not pick of his back feet well..I would assume all his back are pretty short and you need to be carfull when cutting them..NOT to say you cant quick one..BUT I have a problem with him sitting in a cage bleeding and it not under control..He should be out...on a table with someone WORKING on him until he was normal and could go back in the cage..not left to bleed that is horrible..

My thing was that when they called me to tell me he was ready, they waited untill I got there to tell me, they should have called me when it happened to tell me to come in, I was very upset...but I controlled mysself well in there...I wanted to flip, but didnt....And I know you can cut them short, but 2 in a row to short was what got me...and it was like, after that, I guess either he wouldn let them cut his fronts, or they didn bother..not sure which...but, if I wanna take him to another groomer, Im definitly done with them....now Im just to worried bout it happening again there...ya know

Well two in a row can be done lol..get clipping and if they take a min to bleed they dont just bleed when you get them some wait...pain in the butt..anyway just tell the next groomer what happened and they should be VERY CAREFULL with him ...If I knew this I would take a touch off and then go farther not just do one cut but go little by little to see where the quick is...good luck..sounds like a nice big boy..

Yeah, he is a good boy...hyper and playful, which I love...an he loves kids and all...haha..so he's a very good big ole ham..haha...

As for the grooming, well, I think Im goin to take him to the Top Notch one or something so they can file down his fronts, because a few of them have gotten to the point on his front where Im nervous on trying to slip them...I have to :buttkick: myself because my clippers wouldn work, an I forgot to buy new ones for him as he got to this size....so, we'll see..

but thanks for the advice and tips for tellin the next groomer...

I live in St Marys , but would travel to Calvert for good service. I've heard bad reviews about lori be's and Petco.

Thanks...They were both good dogs...though Remmy has my heart..I love old dobes...
She has that affect  She has us laughing daily with all of her stunts. She even got my hubby to love her and he wasn't sure that he wanted a dobie. They are both sooo soft and it is nice to have them both so clean and shiny!! We'll probably take your advice and try to get Bandit in once a month to reduce shedding. Thanks!! :yay:
