I'm guessing she likes the perks that come with being a Congressman's wife and former Second Lady, and she will shut her blowhole like so many little women before her and put up with her husband's nasty behavior so she can retain some status among the elite cocktail set.

As for "standing by their man", I'm aware of a Sec State that did that for her "husband" (I have to presume open marriage), but I'm not very well aware of too many others like that.
