Ground Bees

Tonight I noticed an area about 50' by 50' in my yard that is covered with little sand pyramids, will probably take a picture tomorrow. I've never seen like that in my yard in the past and I've been here almost 40 years, is this a banner year like with cicadas? I did notice a 1'x1' hole the dogs dug with a bunch of bees around it a couple weeks ago but tonight it was all the sand pyramids in a much larger area with very few bees. Is this normal or should I vacate the property.

Hate ground bees. When I was kid mowing lawn, I ran over a nest. Got stung everywhere. And I do mean EVERYWHERE. Picking them out of my shorts 30 minutes later. Left the mower running until it ran out of gas.

I've had that happen a few times with yellow jackets but never the few ground bees I've run across.
