The New York Times Is Surprised To Find Public Defenders Championing the Second Amendment

This state of affairs has left some New York Times journalists scratching their heads in surprise. As a recent Times headline put it: "Unlikely Fans of Supreme Court Ruling on Guns: Public Defenders." The accompanying article describes the Black Attorneys of Legal Aid, the Bronx Defenders, and other groups as "unexpected" allies of the gun rights movement.

But the alliance seems less "unexpected" when you remember that gun control has a racially disparate impact. As the public defender groups told the Supreme Court in an amicus brief, "New York enacted its firearm licensing requirements to criminalize gun ownership by racial and ethnic minorities. That remains the effect of its enforcement by police and prosecutors today." In other words, Bruen was a win for both gun rights and criminal justice reform.

Likewise, the alliance seems less "unlikely" when you remember that the American civil rights movement has long had a gun rights component. This dates back as far as the abolitionists, such as Frederick Douglass, who declared in 1854 that "the True Remedy for the Fugitive Slave Bill is a good revolver, a steady hand, and a determination to shoot down any man attempting to kidnap."

Douglass continued to preach the virtues of armed self-defense throughout the rest of his life. In 1893, as the noble aims of Reconstruction were giving way to the horrors of the rising Jim Crow regime, Douglass argued that "the liberties of the American people were dependent upon the ballot-box, the jury-box, and the cartridge box." Without all three securely in place, he maintained, "no class of people could live and flourish in this country."

Firearm Companies Say Packages Shipped With UPS Being Damaged, Disappearing: Reports

A number of firearm companies have seen their shipments with UPS become damaged or go missing while on route to customers, while others have allegedly had their corporate accounts canceled by the parcel service, according to a report by Bearing Arms, a pro-Second Amendment news site.

Patrick Collins, CEO of The Gun Food, an ammunition supply company, told the news outlet that many packages his business had shipped via UPS had mysteriously vanished in transit.

Specifically, Collins alleged that out of 18,000 rounds of ammunition that he’s shipped, only around a third—roughly 6,000—were actually delivered.

Collins said he was allegedly told by UPS that he was likely not packaging the shipments properly and that the company also noted an uptick in his recent claims regarding packages that are not being successfully delivered.

“They’re not even making it. And I don’t know what they are doing in the facilities if they are purposefully damaging them,” Collins said. “However, they are not making it to the customer.”

Collins added that every batch that his company ships are insured and typically needs to be signed by the customer.

“So it’s funny when they try to say, ‘well, you know, you put in too many claims.’ And it’s like, ‘well, no, I didn’t put in too many claims. Well, our customer never received their package that we had shipped,'” Collins said.

The Epoch Times did not receive a response from Collins when contacted for comment.

Its not just UPS. I received a "delivered" notice for some firearm parts sent USPS. The package was nowhere to be found. I contacted postmaster and got an astonishingly vague and evasive response that boiled down to "please contact my supervisor about this". I was well on my way to going ballistic and made sure local USPS knew that hell was coming when the package mysteriously showed up in our mailbox.

End of story, you say? The package was sliced wide open..completely wide open. It had been carefully set in our mailbox...with every single part still resting in the opened package...not one item missing.

None of the parts fit or just not the finish they were looking for?

North Carolina County Will Put AR-15s In Every School

“We were able to put an AR-15 rifle and safe in all of our schools in the county,” Harwood told the Asheville Citizen Times. “We’ve also got breaching tools to go into those safes. We’ve got extra magazines with ammo in those safes.”

The Sheriff said that storing the breaching tools and AR-15s in school safes will help law enforcement act more quickly in the case of an emergency. Having the option to obtain a semi-automatic weapon in the instance of an active school shooter could save time and help law enforcement officers save lives, according to Harwood.

“Hopefully we’ll never need it, but I want my guys to be as prepared as prepared can be,” the Sheriff commented.
