I took my Suburban in for AC repair two weeks ago at a cost of $1,670.00 the ac was all fixed and ready to go on vacation. Three days into vacation it starts blowing warm air. I took it back to Guy Motors Repair Shop in Mechanicsville to be fixed yesterday. The original repair came with a 90 day warranty. Got a call from them saying it would be another $250.00 to fix the problem. I argued with him that the original repair was to fix the AC and it should be covered under warranty. He told me no becuase the hose that is bad was not replaced in the original repair. Well I sent it to them to have the AC fixed the first time Its not my fault that they did not replace the bad hose, which was probably the problem to begin with. They just lost a customer. Does anyone know of a HONEST repair shop that will honor the warranty? Or is there a place that I can lodge a complaint that will actually make a difference?

But wait, there's more...
Daggone! :poorbaby: Is Guy Motors the one that's in the median near BofA or further down by Wa-Wa?

Isn't the 'burban still under factory warranty?

No factory warranty

The one in the median By 711 and SMECO

They tell me that maybe the mechanic missed the hose the first time, but where is that my problem? I picked it up and he tried to talk to me again I told him "Save it, the beautiful thing about America is that people like you can rip other people off, and people like me can tell you to F**K off" and I walked out of the shop

Tough situation. They are one of the more advanced and better shops in the County.

What did the second $250 include? Hose and Labor only? If so, then they ate the cost of more refrigerant, evacuating the system and recharging and oiling it, labor, etc. At that rate, you basically split the difference of the hose replacement, which is pretty fair.

Many shops don't do A/C repair because of all of the related problems and warranties. Others will half-ass a repair, and cause more problems. These guys just missed a hose replacement, and while it was a PITA for you, and you're p!ssed, it still seems the end result was fair to both. You just had to write two checks to get the completed repair.

Same thing could happen to the fridge' in your kitchen...

Yeah he told me all that But try writing a 1,667.00 check and then return it for the same thing and be told oh maybe my guy missed that, another 250.00 bucks please. NO i paid you to fix it the first time not to come back and give you more money. You can stick up for them if you want, it sounds as though you know alot about Auto repair. But from a customers point of view the amount of money I spent to fix it and get a 90 day warranty should be enough to take care of it and keep a customer. It's not about the money its about doing what is right. I will take it to another shop and pay to have it fixed before giving them any more of my money.

For $1667 everything should have been replaced. That price sounds ridiculous. If they had quoted you $1917 to start with, maybe you would have gone elsewhere. A new compressor from gmparts direct is less than $400 with the clutch. My bet is that the hose was the original problem and they just threw parts at it at your expense.

I don't totally disagree with your money sentiment. Without knowing their profit margin, it's hard to say if they could absorb an additional $250 cut into the bottom line. I just don't know, so I can't defend or deny that.

I'm guessing that when they recharged the system the first time, they used a UV Dye in the refrigerant, so that a comback problem would be easy to find.

Hoses go bad from the inside-out unless they have a crimp that is leaking. So if your hose was bad enough to be faulty, chances are good that debris from the hose circulated around your A/C system. Hopefully, flushing the system, and replacing the parts removed all of that junk to prevent future problems.

Depending on what brand of parts they used, you may have a much longer manufacturers warranty on the repair. Your invoice from the shop may have a part number or something to identify the brand, and you could find out the actual warranty on their web site. The shops standard 90 day warranty is fine, but if the job was performed correctly, the actual warranty may be as much as 2 years, 24,000 miles.

Hopefully, it's fixed now, and you can ammortize the cost over the next few years or until you replace the vehicle.
