Gym memberships in St. Mary's County

Hi all,

I'm looking to get our family in better shape...can anyone tell me what the cost of the gym memberships are around here? I know there's a ProFitness and a World Gym in the Hollywood/Leonartown area. Any others I should be looking at? Are there websites to see what classes are offered?

Figured it might be quicker to get the info from the folks who already have memberships -- plus it saves me from having to listen to a sales spiel.

If you want actual cost for each, you will still have to call as pricing changes throughout the year. You may also be quoted a different cost for family memberships rather than a single membership.

Maximum Gym in San Souci Plaza

DEFINATELY - Maximum Health & Fitness! If you want a nice, new gym with personal, friendly people - this is the gym for you. The staff is really nice and the members are friendly and in the evening (when I go) there are lots of families there.

Pro-Fitness? Please - you may want to check out forums a few months back. One of the managers has been arrested for "allegedly" selling steriods. I would [B]NEVER[/B] bring my family to that gym. Its dirty and child care SUX! IMO

I use to go to the World Gym in Leonardtown. That place is really nice and clean, but it is expensive. Probably one of the better gyms I have been to is the SMAC Fitness in Charlotte Hall. That place is not that old so the equipment is new. And the price was pretty reasonable. Though it does tend to be alittle crowded sometimes. But the building is big and everything is spaced out, so its not too bad. And I know SMAC offers discounts for family packages. so you might want to try there.

I go to ProFitness in the park. I pay less than 30/month for my membership. I enjoy it. Staff is very friendly and helpful.

I go to Maximum in San Souci and LOVE it! Not crowded and busy like ProFitness. Cost is roughly $30 for an individual membership.

World Gym

I used to go to a World Gym in Virginia Beach...I recently went to the one in Leonardtown with a friend...and it was great! I could go on and on...a little piece of home here in Southern Maryland..wonders never cease!

They also have another World Gym on rt 4, south of Prince Frederick.

I have a membership at Pro-Fitness but used it fairly seldom and only for the bikes/treadmills.

I do most of my exercise in my backyard and garage.

If you're worried about cost (family memberships can be EXPENSIVE), I'd suggest picking up a jumprope, a set of dumbbells, and a medicine ball from walmart.
