Spend a little money on a WIDE aperature lens.. (LOW F Stop Number)
If you are using the lens that came with the camera it's crap.

f1.4 for low light and indoors.
Nikon Nikkor Lens - 50 mm - F/1.4 - Nikon F
You can get a little slower lens f 1.8 for about 1/2 that price.

You can also get FAST zoom lenses, but they can run into the thousands..

I toasted my 18 - 55 in Pensacola.. threw it across a parking lot (long story).
I have the f1.8 and took Christmas pictures in the house without a flash.
Also look at getting a better flash if you are using the one on the camera. HUGE difference.

Just have to remember for indoor lighting and flash, LOWEST f stop as possible (every lens varies what the limits are).

For that price I really hope you don't throw this one across a parking lot
I don't think they'll be as forgiving..
I tossed everything but the camera body and my big lens across the Homewood Suites parking lot after a LONG day of travel.. Took me almost 20 hours to fly there, with a 3.5 hour drive from Panama City in the rain.. that's how my day ended with camera parts flying across a parking lot.
