Where did your figure of 29 percent come from? And you are referring to SMECO, right?

I don't think SMECO upped their rates last month. Here's 12 months of my usage:

Year Month kWh Cost $/kWh
2009 Feb 8805 1252.54 $0.14
2009 Jan 5050 762.06 $0.15
2008 Dec 2442 373.83 $0.15
2008 Nov 1872 285.07 $0.15
2008 Oct 1905 299.92 $0.16
2008 Sep 2608 404.73 $0.16
2008 Aug 3032 461.13 $0.15
2008 Jul 2864 414.58 $0.14
2008 Jun 1835 267.12 $0.15
2008 May 1789 245.53 $0.14
2008 Apr 2258 306.79 $0.14
2008 Mar 4046 541.68 $0.13
2008 Feb 4247 568.06 $0.13
2008 Jan 3974 538.59 $0.14
2007 Dec 2831 382.76 $0.14

The cost/kWh is quite consistent: between $0.13 and $0.16 per kWh.

My usage on the other hand is insane. Our house is all electric and the heat pumps have done little in December and January! I think it would be cheaper to heat the house by burning dollar bills!!!

I'm getting a pellet stove this summer (I assume the prices are ridiculous right about now).

Omg!!

It hurts to see all of us going through this ..but I really did think something was the matter with my electric till I started reading all of the inputs on this... SMECO needs to do SOMETHING! It is getting way too out of hand...I am sorry to say this, but I am glad to see that I am not the only one with these horrendous bills...from these crooks!!!

I started talking about my high electric bills almost a year ago, I can't believe that no one else noticed when the difference started. I have cut my useage in half....SMECO agrees with me on this......I have changed storm doors, patio doors, front door and sealed windows. There is no one here from 6am until 6pm....NOTHING RUNNING......and my bill has TRIPLED.....not doubled but again TRIPLED......it is now higher than my car payment and insurance bill together......

I am moving into a smaller house to try to save and then I am leaving the state. Between the electric, the taxes, the price of food and houses in this area, I am done.

I can understand, I have tried some of those things also, just let it go until this year of actually saying something about it, cuz I remember hearing about the electric bill rise last year. Problem is, I don't think no matter where you go; any state; is gonna be much different; eventually it will raise and you will move again; not fair when we want to settle roots in one place...

I think it will be different. I have friends and family in three different states and yes their bills have gone up but nowhere near what we are paying....and they pay alot less on property taxes and for the price of buying a home. The trick for me is going to be saving before I can afford to get moved..........I am starting with down sizing and I am moving next month....I am currently living in a house that is probably close to 1800-1900sq ft and one level. I really just wanted to move out of state, but all my savings have gone to keep up with the prices of just everyday living here...first the gas then the utilities and on and on......

and my car insurance will be cheaper when I move......I checked.

and when my retirement gets here it will not be taxed like it is in Maryland....

My parents moved quite a few years ago due to the increasing taxe on everything...SMART MOVE; though they did get hit by Katrina (Biloxi) and were very lucky only to have to find a new place to live from there previous apt. there; they are glad they moved from Maryland. So I understand!!! Wish I had it in me!! Keep up to date on this. GOOD LUCK!! AND FREE SPIRIT!!

I work for the state and have been giving serious thought to moving to WV, but being close enough to commute to Md... just transfer to another county

I noticed the higher bills probably in Jan of last year.

My mom lives in Harford county and her bill is usually about $250 a month all winter(she has heat pumps), she e-mailed me 2 days ago and said that her bill was over $500

Again as I posted in the other thread, where are you getting this from? SMECO's rates did not go up 29 percent.
